No place to park your car
Sep 2021
The small waterfall is OK for a 2min Foto-session but that's all.
Lots of garbare and you are never alone there.
Biggest issue is the fact, that there is absolute no option to park your car.
Parking is striktly forbidden everywhere and its nearly impossible to turn your car in that dead-end street. You need to be luck to get one of the few private parking places of the restaurant near-by and its for "guests only". Next public parking places are a mile away and then you need to walk over the main street with quite dangerous traffic (no extra-space for pedentrian space anywhere).

Beautiful hideaway
Aug 2018
Candalla Falls are a nice little afternoon's distraction. There is a trail that follows the river up into the mountain with plenty of opportunities to dip in for a swim!

The most beautiful hidden gem
Aug 2018 • Family
We have been coming to the same area of Tuscany for around 5 years now and funnily enough we had never come across candalla waterfalls until this trip. The waterfalls are beautiful and run straight of the Italian Alps. For the best waterfalls walk on further up than the first waterfall you come to there you will find the most beautiful ones. The water is freezing cold but lovely to swim in nonetheless. crystal clear water was beautiful

Amazing site
Sep 2018 • Couples
It is an area with some trails going up along the river. The area has heavy vegetation and there are several places you can swim in the river (cold water). We went here in the start of September and met very few people. We explored the many ruines of watermills. It was a romantic trip. Bring some food to eat by the river. It has also a spot for mountain climbing.

Don't miss the beautiful mountain road if you travel to Lucca.

If you need a break from the beach!
Jul 2018
If you need a break from the beach drive up to Candalla Waterfalls and take a refreshing dip in the pools. But don’t stop at the first pool go a bit further up.

Down at the first stop is ok, but you will probably se broken glass and a lot of garbage.

The point on the map is not correct
Jun 2018 • Family
First of all, the point, stipylated on the map, is not correct. The falls are at the very end of via Candalla . You should drive along the via Lombrici and then to the very end of via Candalla. Water is cold and refreshing. Good tracking up from the fall.

A site attractive for the industrial archeology, but also for its uncommon landscape qualities
May 2016 • Friends
The "Lombricese" creek flows into the southern stretch of the Apuan Alps, having its origin at the foot of Matanna and Prana mountains. It runs almost immediately a sunken valley, and it is rich in water (favored by the basin’s limestone).
Then in the past ages many mills were located here, moved by the power of falling water: mills for grinding grain, for olive pressing, for manufacture of pasta products, for ironworks, etc. Some mills have fallen into disrepair; but precisely in Candalla hamlet there is one still operating, the ironworks "Barsi" (be visited by appointment).
By an easy trail from Candalla and along the valley's bottom, you can admire the remains of these ancient mills.
But as well as being interesting in terms of industrial archeology, the trail along the valley is highly suggestive for at least two other reasons, the naturalistic ones.
The first reason: the Lombricese stream is impressive for its water flow; it then forms many spectacular waterfalls, where the water is caught sometimes in narrow gorges, forming even the so-called "potholes". Moreover, the stream is particularly clean, then it hosts a macro-invertebrates fauna, which is illustrated by some panels - in Italian and English - along the path.
The second reason: the creek is lined with some high and steep cliffs, very used as a school of rock. From this point of view, it is the most important rock climbing arena in all of Tuscany. In favorable weather, you can see a few climbers on the cliffs.
The path along the creek is connected with trails that allow you to stand out from the valley, up to hamlets like Casoli (on the right side of the stream) and Metato (on the left). A trail loop (signposted) is also walkable, that connects all these places, but in this case you need more than three hours.

Refreshing
Aug 2016 • Friends
On a hot summers day it´s just lovely to go here to cool down in the rather cold water. Combine it with a visit to one of the restaurants in Candalla or in Camaiore.
