A friend recommended that we hike Mt takao. He failed to tell us how steep it is and how narrow the paths were. It was a strenuous hike but very enjoyable. What a treat it was when we got to the top. Right before you get to the top you have over 100 stairs. Once at top there's a spectacular... More

Having had 4 good days in Tokyo, this was a great day out. From Shinjuku station, a 50 minute train ride through picturesque country side amidst some towns. If weather fine you see Mt Fuji in all its glory along the way and from summit of Mt Takao, which is barely 800m above sea level. We were mesmerised! Excellent temples... More

This cable car is one option to go up on Takaosan mountain. The fare is 480¥ for single trip and 930¥ for round trip. Ticket may be purchased on counter or by machine. Cable car depart every 15 minutes both uphill and downhill. This offers thrilling but exciting experience as it climbs almost 80° cliff up and down, with forest... More

We bought the discounted tickets at Shinjuku Station which included 2-way train rides and 1-way cable car or chairlift ride at JPY1020 per person. Though it would be cheaper to get the 2-way cable car or chairlift rides but we wanted to experience the thrill of taking both rides. We went there on a Friday morning and it was packed... More

We caught the first car on a Sunday morning, standing room only but the view was worth the filming that the man ahead of me did for the full trip. One very steep section gives you an idea of what the climb would be on foot.

One of the means to climb upto the Top of Mount Takao. The cable car reaches till mid-way of the climbing route and offers great views on the way to the top. The Mount Takao cable car is the steepest cable car in the world. The Cable car is very popular among the tourists and is always crowded so one... More

Apparently this is the steepest cable car in the world-- though it is hard to sense that unless you sit in the very front of the car and get the head-on view. Its slow and steady and provides a great option on trail #1 for those who want to shave about 30 minutes off of their trek or for those... More

If you and your companion want a easy trekking in Mt.takao, I suggest trying a cable car. You can catch a beautiful green fine view ! In addition, the place where you get off the cable car has many japanese traditional sweet or dumpling.

With the Kio line you can buy a train ticket that include the cable car. If you decide to buy only the cable car or chair lift ticket the price is around 450Y one way. You can hike back or take the cable car p and chair lift down. The cable car is very steep, and fun to take.
