Mount Mitake is about 950 meters above sea level. It can be reached by subway and bus within 2,5 hours from Shinjuku Station (by JR Chuo Line and Ome Line). The cable car cost JPY 1,300 (round trip). I suggest go here during autumn (late October to mid-November).

After a few days in crowded Tokyo, we relished the chance to escape to the mountains to do a bit of hiking, and to walk off all the goodies we had eaten the last couple of days. We started the hike at the cable car station at Mt Mitake. Proceeded to walk uphill to Musashi Mitake-jinja shrine for about 20mins,... More

Went from Tokyo, took JR until Mitake Station (around 90min), then a bus (10min, it departs right from Mitake Sta to where you take the lift up to the mountain), then the lift (around 5min). Then we started to go up, soon you will arrive in the shrine. I just discovered when was there, but people take their dogs to... More

A great day out from Tokyo just 90 minutes by JR train to Mitake. The transport connections are well timed and at no point did we feel rushed. The bus to the cablecar station takes around 10 mins, 280 yen. Then the cablecar to the top of the mountaing is another 6 minutes, 590 yen. Very cool ride! At the... More

A short journey from Tokyo but feels worlds apart. A beautiful place to visit. The trails to temples, shrines, waterfalls and look-outs are great - lots of stunning views. Highly recommend a visit if you appreciate the outdoors and nature.

Beautiful view - you can see the pretty scenery and villages surrounding the mountain. The hike up may be tiring for those not used to it, but the village at the top is a very nice reward! There is also a lift for those not wishing to hike.

Mt Mitake is a reasonable day trip from Tokyo. I took the Chou Rapid service from Shinjuku and it went thru to Ome. I then transferred to the Ome line to Mitake Station. If you want to see the plum blossom you could get off at Hindatawada Station for Yoshino Plum Park. Getting off at Mitake I walked left from... More

My friend and I visited Mt Mitake on a day trip from Tokyo in November 2015. We took the JR Chuo Line from Shinjuku to Tachikawa, then the Itsukaichi line to the end of the line: Musashi-Itsukaichi. We picked up water, pork buns and onigiri at the kombini at the station were walking by 10:30am. We walked through the picturesque... More

We came here for the autumn foliage and stayed the night on the mountain at a Japanese family-run inn. A very scenic and peaceful getaway! We combined it with a day in Okutama, which has even better autumn leaves. From Mitake Station, the bus stop to the cable car is to the left up the street. Because the bus was... More

This is a great place! About 2 hrs by train from Tokyo, but quite simple to get there. When you get to Mitake station take a bus to the gondola and I would recommend taking the gondola up to the halfway point. Definitely check out the waterfalls as they are the highlight in my opinion. I highly recommend this as... More
