The idea of building a fortress in the sky combining the beautiful rocks with human ingenuity is marvelous to see. The day was sunny and warm, the views were bread taking, we went to every corner of the fortress, do not miss the Roman Fort next to the big one- it is on the left. The mixture of Roman, Bulgarian... The fortress is a great place to visit, BUT, you must be prepared for stairs. The locals have done a lot of work to make this a great place to visit. The fortress is situated in an important cross roads. The strategic fort protected trade routes and kingdoms. The natural rock formations make this an ideal placement of a fort.... More

..and worth it!! Would easily do the climb again even if twice as stiff. Was among the about 10-15 people from three arriving buses who did the full climb to the top, up steep and narrow stairs carved or cut into the rock, and then finally ladderlike stairs so steep that I couldn't look down. Totally amazing 'construction', and giving... More

To get to the top, you will need to climb approx 200 stairs, but once at the top, you will have great views of the town and some very interesting rock formations. If you're in the area, I'd say this is well worth the effort.

I've been to Belogradchik Fortress on Easter 2017. This place is awesome. It has amazing landscapes. Wherever you'd go, you can take some beautiful pictures and panorama. The entrance is cheap and they are opened till 6 PM I think. Check the schedule in advance, because there might be changes. On holidays it is possible to close a little earlier.... More

The climb to the top was okay but it was well worth it for the formations and the views for kilometres. The historical perspective was quite interesting and I could see why it was such a great fortress. A few little tourists market stalls completed the tour.

To start with it is a long and fairly hard climb to the top of the fortress but it is absolutely worth the effort. Only 3 of our group of over 25 made the entire climb. Some of the climb is up steep stairs cut into the rock and the last stretch is up wooden ladders. Originally built by the... More

Our family visited the fortress and hiked around the area. It was very interesting and we had a wonderful time. There are a lot of stairs and rocks to climb, so be sure to wear appropriate shoes.
