Beautiful people, gorgeous beach for walking, swimming and surfing. Restaurants serve delicious fresh local seafood, are clean and reasonably priced. We loved the market in La Libertad and the fresh produce there. Christmas fireworks were fun! We had great family holiday. Brush up on your Spanish because you'll have a hard time finding Gringos here! Lots of friendly vacationing Central... More

Overrated and filled with tourists. Beach is ok but overcrowded, not sure it is ideal for surf for that reason (not a surfer). I would recommend El Cuco instead which is a really nice and huge beach (>1h walk from both ends) and has almost no tourist.

A great place to enjoy at the beach, especially at sunset. You can do surfing on spectacular waves. It is a safe place since there is a tourist police office patrolling up and down the small town; there are a lot of restaurants, shops, and small hotels.

This was a fun spot we stumbled across. Definitely more tourists and travelers speaking English. Which after a long trip it was kind of refreshing to see some people from the states. Great beaches, places to eat and shops to wonder though. El Tunco also felt very safe as my friend and I are two single females. Of course always... More

El Tunco is a type of place that could be very trendy if it was in the US. It's a very cool a little surf town, that has a perfect mix of backpackers… Surfers… And locals are having the time of their life. In just two days we were able to experience the local culture, some nice waves… Great food... More

This beach is amazing and most of the people are friendly. My only gripe is with some guy bothering my wife and I about somehow not paying for his cheap burrito..No dude, we had burgers which were paper thin and we DID PAY. Stay away from the cheap three dollar burrito/burger place but otherwise this beach is great! Cheapest place... More

El Tunco is a laid back village with no issues, and only one vice: Surfing. As far as "resorts" go, there is not much to it. Two streets, a pedestrian street, and a paved walkway along the beach between the Laguna and the Rio Grande. The beach itself consists of black volcanic sand lined with boulders of various sizes, and... More

We just had ceviche and frozen pineapple and frozen lemonade drinks. Both were delicious and reasonably priced.
