It's just a place, nothing to see in concrete. Just start a few houses in caves and you can not go through the road because the owners have two or three dogs loose that you can no longer go through the official road. In conclusion, don't waste your time.

While the museum is really with a visit to really set the scene and get the historical background of the caves, the ravine itself is not great. We did a small hike in the ravine and another hike on the side of the mountain on a an easy paved path but the caves are very far up. The ones that are accessible are inside restaurants with very big lines. It was much more interesting to go to Cueva del Rey to see the caves where the North Africans who originally populated the island used to live.

Point out that it is not a specific place but an entire area, you leave Aguimes and in 2 km you are already enjoying the ravines and the views. You can stop at several viewpoints as well as in an area where there are houses inside the caves. Highly recommended.

Don’t forget to visit the barranco interpretation center first! Everything is magnificently well explained: the geological origin, the specific fauna and flora, the inhabitants and habitats. Then we walked along the gorge to the end of the road, paying attention to the trees, rocks and troglodyte houses. At the end there is a small parking lot then a large volcanic dike surrounded by cave dwellings and restaurants. It is interesting to go around this Dyke via a pretty path lined with troglodyte houses, pretty gardens, cuddly cats and with a superb view over the barranco to the ocean.

Probably the most amazing place we've been to in Gran Canaria. The little houses set into the cliffs, the views, the scale of the ravine. Met some lovely people while walking around. Also visited a tiny house where an elderly lady had lived for 63 years. We were invited in. There are a few restaurants and a couple of gift shops. Easy drive from Aguimes or Ingenio off GC1.

The Barranco of Guayadeque is an intresting experience, it's totally different then the most visited south part of the island. The Baranco has many archelogical interesting caves, but also nowadays you can see people still living there. Also here time didn't stood still, so the houses have television and radio. You can also visit an old church that is built in the mountain. When you drive further up to the mountain the road get's steeper and steeper. Finally you will find yourself in the center of the island. There you can visit a restaurant or just enjoy the marvellous view. If you only visited the south of the island, you didn'i visited the island. It's nice and green, something you have to see for yourself.Andreas Bouman (Holland).

We heard about the ravine and its caves from the bar staff in our hotel. We did not know much but since we had a rented car, we decided to drive there one day. The museum at the beginning of the ravine was very informative about the life of the native people, how they lived in the caves, stored food, buried the dead etc. It's a must to visit.
Further up the ravine you can see people still living in the cave houses and you can walk up and visit them. We found one that is a souvenir shop too so we could enter.
Further up there is a dead end where the road goes up a mountain. There is a lovely restaurant there with good and interesting food (not just the usual tapas food) at reasonable prices.
Great for a day trip.

We visited by car and agree that the road from Aguimes, although signposted, can be easy to miss and at first it seems to be the wrong road. It is the road to the east of the church. The Barranco itself is beautiful and I would recommend going in the morning/midday so the light is best. The museum on the way up is worth a visit. It only costs 3e and it gives some basic info to help you appreciate what you will see later. then the main cave houses are on the left - the parking is on the right. It is popular with coach trips so can get busy. The bar underneath the homes offers some basic fare and coffee (very reasonable at 1e). Then go to the end of the road where there are several proper restaurants and more cave houses. Walk through the car park of the main restaurant and you can circumnavigate the promontory anticlockwise, with great views. As has been said before, February is the perfect time to go because the almonds are in bloom and look beautiful. You could spend a leisurely day here or a good half day.

During a two-week holiday in Gran Canaria, my wife and I went to the Guayadeque ravine that is situated west of Agüimes. It is not so easy to find but once in Agüimes look for the GC-103 road. After about two miles you will reach the Museo de Guayadeque, which is definitely worth a visit, as it provides some very informative displays. There is a car park there and we used that as a base for a walk up the ravine.
We hiked as far as the Guayadeque hamlet where there are numerous cave houses, along with a cave restaurant.
The geology of the ravine is spectacular, with numerous caves created by volcanic “bubbles” that have subsequently been exposed by erosion and were used as homes, granaries and burial sites by the pre-Hispanic islanders.
The flora is also quite lush with some unique plants found nowhere else on earth.
Definitely worth a visit.

We would like to do a walk in this area. Can anyone tell me a good route? We do walk in England and I would say we could do easy/ moderate difficulty. Just looking for a nice shortish ramble to relax and enjoy - nothing too demanding and easy route to follow
Thanks
