If you like a bit of the past this is a excellent place to visit with all the different churches and grave yards there's plenty hear. Not to mention the old village and for the adventurous the remains of the old gun battery there is a lot of walking involved but the history is worth it. The guides are very... More

A boat trip takes you to this lovely island with a wealth of eclesiatical history and heritage and a fort from Napoleonic times. Nobody lives there apart from the rabbits and the kestrels that prey on them. It is magical and wonderfully unspoilt - no cafe, no paved or tarmac walkways - and it needs to stay that way.

we were blessed with beautiful weather which always helps but this site is just a gem. It collection of national monuments are so impressive as well as the more recent vernacular buildings and the round tower is exceptional. the two wonderful guides Michael and John did a great job taking us around. it would be great if the ongoing works... visited scattery island with family and really enjoyed the trip. We boarded a boat in Kilrush marina ( a really impressive and well maintained site) having booked by phone the day before. Trip costs €15 per adult. The boat journey is quite short and you arrive at the pier on scattery in about 15 mins (includes passing through the lock... More

We took the dolphin discovery boat to Scattery Island. We called into the Marina the day before to get times and the lady took my number and rang me the next morning with the sailing time. I wasn't sure as to why the sailing times are so dependent on weather and tides until I went on the boat. The Marina... More

Checking the time of the ferry is vital as it changes with the tides and weather. People looking after this very friendly and helpful. OPW guides on the site friendly and informative and no charge for guided tour. Tour itself well worth the hour. Lovely way to spend a morning or afternoon

I try to visit Scattery Island every summer to experience the extraordinary aura of peace and tranquility that pervades through the island. Perhaps it's just because of its position in the middle of estuary or maybe there is some mystical remnants from its ecclesiastical heritage but it is potent.

This is MUST see location for those who enjoy history and sea views. The OPW does a magnificent job with their expert and friendly guides on site. The restoration is ongoing and well thought out. A quick boat ride and well worth the trip. PS be sure to make a reservation and check tides in advance
