I'm rating Elburg poor due to its improper signage for parking.
We found s place to park beside a sign that gad a blue P - for parking?!
When we got back to the car after shopping in the village & we bought a lot in the cute shops. We had a parking fine for €100 - that's a huge fee by any description , especially when we carefully chose the spot with the parking sign.

This is one of the main landmarks that can be seen in this town... it is an impressive sight to see this gate from a distance.... You can't go in, but you can go under it... it gives you an idear what this little town must have been like... that it has quite some history... this gate dates back from the 16th century and it has changed much since.

A must see in this town, but to be honest you can't miss it!.

The Vischpoort is a lovely gate to the city as many in the Netherlands. Elburg itself is such a charming town with the cobble stone streets and charming atmosphere and the Vischpoort provides the a fitting entrance.

Nice town, that has a lot of history. The grid of the city was copied by many other towns in the 14th century. The museums are worth visiting esp. the historic museum and the Jewish museum "De Sjoel".

Highly recommended to stop over in Elburg - its as if time has stood still in this wonderful place. Take time and wander through the cobblestone streets - you will not regret it!

The Vischpoort (fishgate) of Elburg is time standing still, except that there are more people today than than in the 15th century. Obviously. One can just walk through. It's the entrance to Elburg from the harbour side. There are lots of eateries around, so yes, foodies would love the Vischpoort as well. It's a historic building, dating back to the Middle Ages, still standing strong. No wildlife around. Shopping fanatics would love Elburg as well. Lots of little cute shops around the Vischpoort.

This is nice gate from the inside of the beautiful old center of Elburg. The Netherlands has many amazing city gates. This isn't the best gate but it is good and a must see while in Elburg and easy to do since the center is so small.

This tower is the entrance of the small village Elburg. Just a few streets, some shops and some pubs ... but great on a lousy day.

Elburg must be one of the oldest poorts / harbour in Holland especially way back in the Middle Ages when the IJsselmeer was still the Zuiderzee. there are some beautiful old buildings , and if you are ever in the area, do take a detour and drive in. You will not be disappointed!

Elburg was used to be a fortress. Vischpoort is one of gates of the fortress that's still remain. What can you say about Vischpoort? It's an entrance to a small shopping area in the town. You can't miss it when you visit this town. What more interesting is, is the casemate in front of this gate or outside the city wall.
