We've always wanted to see capybara so it was a real surprise to find there are two at the Sunshine Aquarium. In addition I was really impressed with the invertebrate collection as well as some of the other marine oddities such as mudskippers. The Llama enclosure is too small (why are there llamas in an aquarium anyway?)

At 2000 yen per adult, the visit to this aquarium was not a value. We saw the seal and large aquarium feeding shows. Our two and half year old did not seem as interested as when he visited Kyoto Aquarium the week before.

Amazing staff. Shows are awesome. Lots of seats to relax while viewing the aquariums. There is a cafe located inside, near the entrance/exit. Very good place to hang with the whole family.

We loved it, even if it was a bit small. The animals looked healthy and had nice clean enclosures and most of them were really interactive and everybody was able to get a good view of the animals. The penguin enclosure was phenomenal

Entry fee was cheap not more than $10AUD. Was great to see some rare small creatures, decent priced souvenir shop & they have a look out roof top. Reason why I gave it a 3 star was they had some shows midday & late afternoon, they don't really advise that these shows are on unless you ask or you follow... More

Went to Sunshine City Aquarium with my 5 years old girl. The aquarium itself is kind of small compare to other countries but some species provided are quite special. It is not very crowded as we went in around 5pm on Wednesday. Kind of dark inside. Merchandise selling in the store are not entirely from the aquarium - they sell... More

One of the best aquarium we visited. It's small but there are lots of things to see. The shark tank was great with lots of fish and a few sharks swimming. Then a diver got into the tank and talked to the audiences. Great for little children. Then there was this strange looking Ocean Sunfish. Great place to visit if... More

A lovely Aquarium. A little pricey to enter but once you're in you can understand why. Some amazing creatures, very nicely displayed with a lot of space. Very clean with accessible toilets. A nice sized restaurant offering hot and cold food. The shop was reasonably priced which was nice since we wanted to bring home a memento of our visit... More

went here during winter season late December 2016, packed with guests that bring all their family member, cost you 2000 yen for adult, and 1000 for kids. if you look for Aquarium or seaworld I will recommend Hakkei jima SEA PARADISE, more worthed.

Staying in Ikebukuro

Neighbourhood Profile
Ikebukuro
Ikebukuro is an area of massive development. Several thousand tenants occupy two giant department stores and shopping malls, where all sorts of shopping and gourmet foods can be enjoyed. The 60-story building at the east entrance of the station, Sunshine City, is a landmark within Ikebukuro and features an aquarium, planetarium, theme park as well as an observation platform. The popular name for the western side of this area is "Otome Road" (Maiden Road) and there are many shops selling products related to anime with a female theme. It has rapidly become the worldwide headquarters for ‘otaku’ or geek culture.
