The main museum was under renovation, and the minute “side museum” was average. The polar expedition vessel Soya was worth a good look at. It had made several sea expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic. Visitors can go on this retired ship to see the...More

Soya is a good look at ship life. It is also a good look back at Antarctic history. Free to get on(donations taken).

The main museum is closed for refurbishment which is a shame, the building for it looks like a big cruise liner which is kinda fun. While it is the outside bits are all that are open with a small donation requested but not insisted on....More

The exhibition of the retired, real ship, Soya is good. You can walk in and around the ship to learn explorer's real life during their research expedition journey. The admission is collected at the entrance gate for the ship on a donation basis meaning any...More

The big museum is still closed for renovation. Doesn't tell you that on the English website. Better call. No estimate as to when it will reopen. The adjacent Soya museum and ship are open and are very good. Trip out on the monorail is worth...More

The last time I was at the museum was in 2008. When this re-opens you should check it out, as it had a lot of interesting things and was just overall a fun museum to visit. One of my favorites in Tokyo.

This museum has been closed for a very long time for renovations. Therefore a friend called the museum to ask if it opened again. Yes, said the lady on the phone. So we went, finally! But, upon arrival we only found a small subsidiary to...More

It is still closed. The Soya, a museum ship moored close by, is open though. Wish it comes back someday, it was a museum rich in exhibits and educational with many models and an area to play. Visit Miraikan on the opposite side of the...More

Forget about this place unless you really want to visit the antarctic boat Soya next to it (free and nice 15 minutes visit). Apparently, the building / boat will be demolished and replaced by a new building in 3 to 5 years...
