The walls of the Citadel are massive rising above the center of town. We went on the guided tour (guided via headphones) which was available in French, English and German. In the various rooms there were short film sequences which made the War of 1870-71 come to life. Definitely worth a visit.

This is worth a visit. There is a well maintained golf course nearby and some good restaurants nearby!

A great day family visit or for backpackers. The grounds very well kept, very informative. Small little town at the location

This fortress from the 18th century saw active combat during the war of 1870-71 between France and Germany. The place was actually theatre of a dramatic siege, lasting even after the French capitulation, due to the strong will of the French commander of the fort. You are given an automatic audio guide in various languages - including English - which... More

Long and powerful it is a huge gun platform and fortress controlling the surrounding countryside. Full of Franco-Prussian history and good views. Entry includes headsets triggered at relevant locations. Go in to watch short intro first as this is only way to access descent into the internal warren of tunnels with marked route and visuals to support the headset info.... More

The Citadel visit is a self-guided audio tour. You walk through the citadel and are guided through the story of the famous siege and wars with commentary and video. For adults this is great, however, do bear in mind that the experience is quite graphic and can frighten small children (I had to escort my child quickly out). Definitely worth... More

We were not sure what to expect of the Fort, but it was amazing, a real piece of history and a great experience.

We didn't even know this place existed until friends went, and it was very neat! We first walked apund the outside of the grounds, just taking in the size and beauty! The town of B#tche (trip advisor would not allow me to type the town name!) below the citadel is beautiful! We did pay to take the tour, though we... More

We really enjoyed the tour of the citadel - we were able to get an English audio guide which was great. The tour was enhanced by the story told as you travelled through the rooms. Well worth the visit
