About
Known locally as the Kaiping Diaolou, these unique, multi-story watchtowers were used as fortifications in the 17th century. Now a world UNESCO Heritage site, they are some of the most fascinating historical and architectural artifacts in China.

It was fascinating to see the diaolou with their combination of European and Chinese Architecture, as well as hearing the interesting stories behind their creation. Our young students were captured by the stories of the three storied tower built for a man with three wives,...More

I visited these diaolous on a Sunday along with the li gardens. I was fortunate enough to befriend a taxi driver that spoke decent English and he waited for me while I explored them. I recommend purchasing the complete package to appreciate the exquisite detail...More

These are unique buildings put up at a period in Kaiping where bandits roamed free. It sounds exactly like a Chinese version of the wild, wild, west in America. Men went abroad to make a living, and those who made it sent money home with...More

This place is not the hidden gem you are looking for. This place has been turned into a tourist location heavily since it became a UNESCO site. Everywhere, they are trying to seek money out of tourists. They charge for parking which was acceptable but...More

Even if this attraction is inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list, only a few tourists (especially foreign) ever make it out here. It's only around 2 to 2.5 hours away from central Guangzhou - so it's more accessible than ever before. The Diaolou...More

The photo does not justify the buildings. There is a reason why the UN recognize their significance. The villages are well-preserved, especially the Zili Village and Men Yuan. You will feel so calm and pleasant walking around those villages. Even better if you are interested...More
