Nothing so special..

We were there and expected more from this place. Yes, the view over the town and the val d’Orcia is nice, but that’s it! Won’t go there again.

Wonderful structure with a very interesting history. A visit with good weather will be repaid with breathtaking views of the surrounding Tuscan hills.

Magical place

The views from the tower are truly magnificent. Exploring the old fortifications fascinating. Unless you really like walking up hills, you can drive to a car park at the top. We got our tickets from a lovely lady at the car park entrance in a 'shed', originally from the UK she was very helpful and we had a lovely chat and got lots of useful information.

A hidden gem

Just happened to see this while driving around Cetona. Staff spoke English and was most helpful. No tour needed as you can just wander around, climb the tower and take photos. They have a restaurant but we didn’t eat. Great view, great history .

Amazing location...

We drove from Orvieto to see the Fortezza di Radicofani and it was well worth the trip. Parking inside the entrance is free and entry to the grounds and Fortezza is Euro 4 pp. There are toilets and a bar/restaurant. The views are simply stunning and on a clear day you can see four regions and the tyrrhenian sea. The onsite bar/restaurant has a simple menu. We had pasta dishes for lunch, delicious and reasonably priced. Staff are warm and friendly too. The lady selling tickets is very knowledgeable and it was a pleasure to meet and chat with her. Highly recommend a visit if you are in the area.

Arrogant staff
Aug 2019 • Family
We decided to walk up the hill to see the beautiful landscape. On our way, we passed a sign in Italian with opening hours and the price of visiting the fortress. When we got up, there was a wooden gate with another Italian sign we didn't understand. We went past it to take some photos and take another way down as it wasn't very comfortable and safe walking through the forest. A staff member approached us, explaining that the entry fee (4€) has to be paid to be there. I said we don't want to go inside the fortress and I asked if we could just walk through and take the road down. The man started to be angry and arrogant, telling us that it’s not possible because of the rules. I explained that my mother hurt her toe walking up and that she doesn't want to go the same way down. When she tried to get to the road (it was a few meters, we could clearly see it), the man blocked her way and completely unnecessarily touched her and pushed her back. Then he called another staff member, telling something about Polish (we’re not polish FYI). The other man explained the same thing again calmly but didn't help us either.

Panoramic Views & Castle Experience
Jul 2019 • Couples
If staying near Radiocofani, this is a must do and see. The views from atop the tower and the mountain it rests on are unforgettable. There is a cafe next to the remains of the Fortezza. Inside, you will learn more about the history of the tower. This was an unforgettable site.

Of cedar burning!! Toilets ol’ Style , clean and supplied ! Hours of tranquil roaming if you like... we’ll return as there is much to be discovered also ask about the mysterious Pyramid 👍🏿 the entire place is dotted with the loveliest wildflowers scattered all about, including red pansies .

Amazing fortress in an amazing location
Feb 2018 • Friends
Built in the most beautiful and strategic location of the whole area, it is easily visible from all around, particularly along the Via Francigena (we saw it for the whole day walking before reaching it and for the whole day after as we walked further). It is easy to imagine, due to Radicofani's perfect location, on top of a hill and guarding two valleys with views south and north extending to several kilometers, why this place was always so vital throughout history. During the 14th century, a famous bandit called Ghino di Tacco used to rule over the town, praying on the rich but helping the poor, a sort of Robin Hood of the area. The view from there was amazing and having the whole castle to ourselves was an even greater experience.
