The best visit on a cold Sunday. It was amazing. Unfortunately we could not properly visit as the main monastery was closed. There was however an exhibition of old photos at one of the rooms which was actually opened for public. Will go back on...More

Place where the first Spanish and Basque languages texts were found. Also a very beautiful monastery. Joining a tour is obligatory, you can't just walk around. Explanations are very good.

The monastery is well with a visit, with the chapel a particular highlight. You have to join a tour (in Spanish) so can’t go at your own pace, which was the only frustration.

A fantastic historic monastery where the first text in Spanish was written. The guide was very knowledgeable and made the visit even more interesting. The children enjoyed too. Highly recommended if you are in La Rioja

This is a surreal place to visit and appreciate the history that made Spain and the world speak Spanish.

We survived the 1 hour guided tour in Spanish with our children but appreciated the opportunity to visit this wonderful place. The church and sacristry are splendid, whilst seeing the significant books was very interesting. Only guided tours ensures a more intimate and civilised visit.

Note this is not open on Mondays and timed visits on an « on the hour «  basis are the way they work. We did not pre book, so there was for us only a tour in Spanish, and no written information leaflets were available in English,...More

We visited this monastery and the much smaller Suso Monastery which is about a 20 minute walk up a fairly steep woodland trail (or alternatively you can hop on a mini bus provided as part of their guided tour). It's free to walk around the...More
