If you’re curious about the real food of Bologna you need to go on one of Helena’s food tours. We had a fabulous tasting and walking tour around the best food shops and markets in Bologna, tasting charcuterie, cheeses, piadina and balsamic vinegar. Helena is so lovely, engaging and amazingly knowledgeable about the produce and food of Emilia-Romagna. At the end of the tour we went to one of the oldest osterias in Bologna, osteria del sole and ate all the food that Helena had bought for us, charcuterie, bread and some sweet things too, along with wine. Thoroughly recommend this tour, thank you so much Helena.

We met Helena in a beautiful cafe where she gave us a brilliant overview of the region’s foods. From there we walked around the city sampling many different local specialities, from amazing cheeses to 30 year old balsamic vinegar. All the while Helena’s knowledge and rapport with shop owners made us feel really at home and welcome in the city. We finished by grabbing a selection of amazing food and enjoying it with a glass of wine. A wonderful and knowledgable guide of the food and the city.

The pasta making class and food tour of Bologna were highlights of our trip to Italy! The pasta was so delicious it became our benchmark to compare all other pastas. Helena is so knowledgeable and helped us see things we never would have found on our own. Highly recommend any of her experiences to anyone traveling to Emilia-Romagna.

It was an early day for this tour but all worth it! We had to start early as the cheese maker starts their day early daily. It was an eye opener watching the whole process of cheese making. Helena picked authentic and specialised makers to work with and that was what we loved as opposed to a very commercialised tour! We went to an organic Parmigiano reggiano DOP farm where the milk they used for the cheese comes from their own cows and also visited a niche DOP balsamico producer. Didn’t know how good balsamic vinegar can be Nor how expensive it can get! The owners trusted Helena very much and her autonomy to be able to bring us abt freely within the compound was defo a plus compared to big tour groups that could possibly add limitations. Thank you Helena for sharing your knowledge and the great experience!

If you are passionate about good food and quality ingredients then this tour is for you. Helena is extremely knowledgeable about the history and foods of Italy. We spent two days with her and came away with a new found appreciation of where our food comes from. The trip to the dairy to see the process by which Parmesean Reggiano cheese is made was amazing and the cheese delicious. We also visited a balsamic vinegar producer to observe and taste the process of creating quality Balsamic vinegar. The walking tour of Bologna was informative on many levels. We saw how and where the locals purchase their foods and had the chance to taste a variety of local specialites. Helena also gave us great recommendations of where to eat as she is well aware of which restaurants are using quality ingredients. Every recommendation was spot on. She even shared her family recipe for ragu. I would recommend these tours to anyone who appreciates good food and historical context.
