It’s a rainy day here in Langkawi and to fill our time we thought we would go to this so called ‘mega mall’ and watch Despicable Me at the cinema. The alleged showing time was 12.30pm. We arrived around 11.30am and the cinema was closed. It was t easy to find either in a 3 story mall that states the cinema is on level 10. We found the lift and went straight to level 10 assuming it would be open or soon to open given the advertised movie time of 12.30pm. We were greeted by a metal roller door that was down and no signage advising when it opened. We decided to talk a walk around which took literally 5 mins given the amount of shops and nothing of interest to us. We saw other tourists assuming they were doing the same thing to get out of the rain. After 3 more visits up to the cinema, including the last bus at 12.15pm we decided to leave on the assumption it wasn’t going to be open. We approached several store workers who either said ‘don’t know’ or ‘should be open now’.
Workers uninterested in greeting you when going in their stores.
Full of vacant shops.
Went to marybrowns for lunch while we were waiting for the never to open cinema, totally over rated but it was the best looking thing to order for lunch. Saw a couple of ants on our table.
We waited at the taxi rank for 10 minutes, no worker at the desk. A few guys sitting around but didn’t approach us to see if we needed a taxi, only realised they were taxi drivers when one hopped in his car.
The mall has no free wifi so don’t rely on this if you need it. A store worker kindly gave us their wifi code so we could book on Grab.

The supermarket and large papershop in the basement are good places to shop for daily practicalities. Guardian drugstore sells both Western and local brands in cosmetics and healthcare. On the upper floors you find a souvenir shop full of colourfull summer batiks in natural materials and next door an outlet selling quality ladies underwear.

Not at all like the malls that Australians like. Many smaller shops and the food court area is basic. The duty free shop was not to my taste.

The most practical shop in the mall is the supermarket, which has upgraded the fruit selection favourably. Next to it is a paper and gift shop, clothes and souvenirs are sold upstairs. When buying vine from the taxfree outlet pay attention to the vintage, some bottles have been laying on the racks in hot weather for years.

All malls in Langkawi are modest, so if you want some shopping do it in KL. Most of the products are of moderate quality still overpriced. The mall themselves are small and quite different from those of KL.

Visited for work, and basically there is not much choices of venue with all airconditioning environment. This is a good mall to rest, and there is a Marrybrown inside.

Of the five or six duty-free shopping malls we visited in Langkawi over four days, this one took the most time - Selina took time exploring the Mall's groundfloor sections - and money - we did end up buying stuff enough to fill the boot of the cab. To be fair, we'd gone in early, around 10am, just as clerks were opening stalls and restocking displays. To carry all the items back to the hotel and then, to the mainland,, I bought a decent-sized suitcase, but the clerk could not tell me what the 'discounted price' was until someone more knowledgeable arrived an hour later. Apart from that irritating delay, even a usually grumpy shopper such as yours truly, could not complain. Selina was happy with the European and US brands she discovered and with the help from staff, was able to fill the suitcase easily and quickly. Luckily for me, we did not even climb one floor up! My credit- and debit cards helped, and so, it was a satisfying experience in consumerism.

Don't waste your time, half of the shops are closed and the rest sell not very much, no real brands just cheap, dated clothing etc..Lots of chocolate that looks like it's been sitting around for a while. There's a supermarket in the basement and if you need a chemist, Guardian is good, but there's also one at Langkawi Fair and a Watsons chemist at Jetty Point too.
