Certainly this is most beautiful & clearest lake in Hokkaido. The view of the lake at the 1st Observatory was stunning. It was very windy and freezing cold in December but the trip is worth it.

Up in the mountains is this spectacular, very clear and reflective lake with a large snow capped mountain in the backdrop. Worth seeing.

Hi: I was there is January so I assume it will be open unless there is a heavy snow cover. When we were there there was some snow but did not interfere with the visit.
