It took us over 4 hours by train and bus to reach the Kurobe Dam from Nagoya. The bus ride from Ogizawa to the Dam was about 15 minutes through a 6-Km tunnel. It was windy and cold on to of the dam. There is an observation deck that provides a scenic view of the area. You can walk over... More

Its a long way up to this Kurobe dam. Autumn is beautiful, recommend late oct tho! There were some small cafe to chill out and many different viewing points to capture the dam. Manage to spot a rainbow from the dam. Awesome!

Coming from Ogizawa, you take the trolley bus and walk up to the dam area. It was cloudy by no rain, so we had a good view of the lake below and the surrounding mountains. There's a observatory where you need to climb 2-3 storey high steps. We skipped this as anywhere along the dam has a good view and... More

Well organized with tuck shops, simple restaurants, exhibitions, boat tours. Water discharge from the dam is amazing and there are many different viewing points to capture the scenes.

A very high dam, spectacular to see! At the time of visit there was no water coming out, but that must be a great sight!

To reach the kurobe dam station, you will pass the dam. The walk is about 15 mins. Views are from the top of the dam. They released the water during spring - autumn i think. It was flowing in Autumn 2016

It is in the Kurobe alpine route or also known as the Japanese Alps. I visited the route on the last day of May and the weather was excellent. We visited from Matsumoto side (shinnano omachi side) which take about an hour. There are very few tourists in the morning. There are 7 transportation types on this route in total.The... More

This is the first stop on the Alpine route, if you are travelling from Omachi. We arrived early in the morning and it wasn't as busy as we had expected.

This dam is very impressive and has some breathing views to behold all around it. It is surrounded by mountains and a couple of waterfalls as well as a deep green lake being formed by it. There are historical placards that show the construction and explain different aspects of the job. There is a gift shop and a couple of... More
