Definitely worth a visit as this large collection of temple buildings is a World Heritage Site. Early morning is a good time to avoid the crowds.

What a treat. This very old Temple complex houses many buildings and is the beginnings of Bhudism in Japan. The history abounds here with the beautiful buildings and architecture. The grounds are well kept and it's a peaceful place to walk around and enjoy the...More

This is a really peaceful temple complex in Koyasan. Clearly, lots of tourists do not make the journey up to Koyasan. As such, in April, it was very quiet and incredibly pleasant. A very tranquil experience.

Be sure this temple is on your list for visiting in Koyasan. Lighting makes it interesting at all times of the day and any kind of weather. Very glad we saw this. And look for a two-needle cluster under the tree!

Big site with several temples and a huge pagoda. I went there during the day (before midday) and there wasn't a lot of people around. Relatively not as populated with tourists as the other attractions in Koyasan. Most of the structures you cannot go in...More

Kouyasan is really a Temple city as Cambridge and Oxford are university cities. The entire Kouyasan is what composes Kongoubuji Temple that was founded by Kuukai, and the Danjou-garan is the equivalent of a Hondou (main temple) of Kouyasan. Although there are many buildings don't...More

A calm and impressive religious place, where lots of different constructions, sometimes brought over from different places or times, are placed together. The audioguide you can get at the tourist information office is a very big help here, as there is barely any information on...More
