This place is spectacularily gorgeous. The tourism in the area is not geared very well towards people who don't speak Japanese or know where they are going (even if they do speak Japanese) and this only adds to the charm and beauty of the overall...More

I caught the train from Shingu town to Nachi station and since the next bus was 30+ minutes away, I decided to walk the roughly 5 miles up. It took me 2 hours. There are a couple of tourist reststops along the way for souvenirs,...More

We really enjoyed our visit to this site. It wasn't necessarily because it was the end of our Kumano Kodo walk or that the shop at the end of the walk sells the best ice creams. It was because of the age of the shrine,...More

This is made even more impressive as it is by the Nachi waterfalls and you get a beautiful view of the pagoda and the falls.

It's a pretty pagoda, especially in sakura season and with the backdrop of the waterfall. It's nice to walk around the area, spend a good 1 or 2 hours.

This three-tiered pagoda is set off by magnificent surroundings and has a view to the famous Nachi Waterfall. Well worth the climb. We were especially lucky to be there during the cherry blossom season.

We decided to hike up to the shrine via the Kumano Kodo trail. Took us about 45 mins at a casual pace. Even took some time to enjoy a delicious brown sugar ice cream. The view of the shrine with the waterfall in the background...More

We reached this temple complex at the end of a 4 and a half day hike of the Kumano Kodo, including the Dogirizaka. It is a justifiable highlight with spectacular views of the pagoda, waterfall, cherry blossoms, temples, fountains. Obviously you don't need to hike...More

Ended our Kumano Kodo at Nachi Taisha. It's a lovely place with Nachi fall, pretty pagoda and of course, the main temple. Less crowded than the key Temples in Kyoto and Tokyo. Found tranquility.

I agree with the previous comments. There is a very good JR forum. I suggest you pose a question on that too for any further information.

Any time of the day is fine as long as the weather is good with sunshine. Do allow yourself more time for walking around and tour the temples at leisure. We visited in winter and mistakenly took the hike (for slightly more... More

Nachi train station is the closest station to the pagoda and unfortunately it looks like it will take about 4.5 hrs to get from Osaka. Then there's an 8.5 km up hill walk inwhich I don't know if there's a bus. We rented a... More
