Views from the lighthouse are absolutely stunning. Unfortunately, it was raining the day of my visit but I managed to enjoy nonetheless. Climbing up to the balcony is a must; however, there was no access to the lantern room. I wanted to walk around the...More

The sign on the gate said it closes at 16:30 but when we arrived at 16:00 we could only look outside as the lighthouse was already closed.

This lighthouse is unique, because it is the first English and stone based light tower in Japan. With its great location you can feel all the great Pasific and Japan scene with eagles flying above you.

Good parking area nearby and short, nice walk to this lighthouse. After 68 steps there is a surprise, 13 very narrow and steep steps more. But view is really rewarding - and entrance costs only 200¥.

There is a lighthouse on the way to Shionomisaki shrine. It was built 120 years ago for safety of ships. There is a wonderful view of Shionomisaki cape and you really get the impression that the earth is round.
