We caught the 6.13am shinkansen from Hiroshima and managed to catch the 9.22am ferry from Uno to Miyanoura port. The idea was to do a leisurely day trip on Naoshima by enjoying outdoor installations in the Benesse House Museum area and visiting the Chichu Museum....More

We took the train leaving Okayama at 8.24 as this appeared to connect well with the ferry. We used our Suica cards on the train but this almost caused us to miss the ferry as there is no machine in UNO and everyone’s card has...More

The high speed boat ride from Takamatsu is only 50 mins. Pls check frequency of the ferry as it does not run that frequently. The island is not massive and u can walk from one port to another. Some old houses and plenty of museums....More

This is an art lovers heaven. Four museums each with different art interests. And the village has art installations in the form of homes throughout. The ferry is fast and a bus provides on ground transportation.

I think we timed this during peak winter and nwyrs/Xmas break however this place was eerie and deserted 80% of places were closed. V cold and found attractions quite average and not worth the time out of your way. Certainly interesting for architecture/design oriented individuals.

I enjoyed the walk around the island. The scenery was beautiful. I am not really into the whole art thing. I don’t see the reason why people would stay over night on the island. It’s pretty quiet island. I prefer Yakushima than this one.

Naoshima has a bus service available to go around the island so in this cold and sometimes rainy season might be the way to go
