Beautiful walk

One of the my favourite walks that I have ever done. We did it during winter and the combination of moss and snow was phenomenal.

...but don't wait too long as yes,you need to be reasonably fit and sure on your feet. Hire a guide and also hiking boots. Then enjoy this pristine natural wonder without worrying about whether you are on the right track. I went with YES Yakushima and my guide Brian was catlike in his walking style and very reassuring. I simply... More

We went on the Shiratani Unsuikyo track around mid November. It was very beautiful and at times breathtaking. We took the shorter course to Taikowa Rock as we were not that experienced at hiking. It was still gorgeous all the way, and the view from Taikowa was astounding. We ended up staying up there for almost an hour just to... More

I had great one day for trekking Shiratani Unsuikyo Valley. I fell in real real natural world. It is quite different other places in Japan. Don't miss Shiratani Unsuikyo Valley if you visit Yakushima. I would like recommend the tour of YNAC

Must-go but do take the longest trail for 5-6 hours. Bring good hiking shoes with good grip as the trail is fully covered with moss which can be very slippery sometimes.

Do this in your early 20s when you're still fearless and full of bounce, preferably with a guide. I tried this the day after I spent 3.5 hours tromping around Yakusugiland in the rain with slippery, worn-out shoes (my bad). In my mid-70s, my legs were rubber when I started the Unsuikyo course, and my caution had been raised by... More

The inspiration for the art of Miyazaki in his delightful anime, Princess Mononoke. There is nothing quite like it.

Nature on Yakushima is overwhelming. The forest with the huge and ancient cedar trees, the humidity and even the leeches make for a very special experience.

This place was just a short busride away from our hotel (the lodge) and it was even when it was raining worth it. If you love rivers, rocks, trees, moss and everything else that is green, go here. It will either be a nice 1-4 hour walk (they have various routes, but some can be closed due to heavy rain.... More

No doubt that the nature and scenery is breathtaking, but the trek can be quite challenging. The steps on the boardwalk was steep and about 10 mins into the trek you will arrive at this stream where there are huge boulders...I wasn't expecting to climb it but the guide brought us up anyway. We were brought until the point where... More
