A lovely spot (the floor alone is worth a visit to study) for an introduction to the history of the cedars, the logging industry, the local people, the island and its forests. Great hands on exhibits and a lovely tiny gift/souvenir area.

Small museum but very informative. They have little audio guides for people who don't speak or understand Japanese. Lovely insight to a beautiful island. There's a cafe near the museum with good food as well!

.... but would have been more interesting with more comprehensive English labelling. There are some great exhibits, and it is well worth looking around. The building itself is beautiful as well.

Awesome context for why and how this island made the World Heritage site list. High quality private audio guides for in depth review/absorption of the various exhibits. Altogether, this is a wonderful tribute to the story of how humans and nature can coexist.

Give it an hour plus. Most people comes here only to catch the bus to Arakawa trail entrance, but let's give it a try. It's a good place. The entrance fee is 600 yen (which seems steep for such a small museum). You can see...More
