s a bit scared by the reviews I saw here and to be honest it seems to me the reviews are a whole bunch of BS. Uncle chang is an excellent dive operator. First they operate from semporna to reach mataking and timba timba and then from mabul to sipadan and mabul kapalai. So you can visit the whole region with them easily. The boats are good and fast and the staff and divemasters are very helpful and skilled (shoutout to sidek, ryan and azri who are excellent guides). Lodging is basic but cheap and clean, but that's the spirit of the island, they're expanding with new water villas and I cant wait to go back there and dive with them again. I am very happy of my choice! Also they organise permits easily for you without all the BS of other dive operators

I booked the dives with Uncle Chang contacting Justine Scuba on Facebook (facebook id: justine.scubadiveinstructor). Don't bother emailing them, she's much more efficient. She took care of pick up and drop off to/from airport, dives in Mabul and Sipadan (including permit) and day trip to Boheydulang, Mantabuan and Sibuan islands. I stayed in a dorm in Mabul. Pretty simple accomodation, but clean sheets and aircon. Food was good. Dive guides were very good (Sidek and Sam). Both Sipadan and Mabul offer pretty good dives. Sipadan for the big stuff (sharks, turtles, etc...) and Mabul for the small stuff (nudes, frog fish, etc...) I had a great experience and will definitely go back again to dive there.

Our stay in Uncle Chang is one of the best memory of our Sabah trip, we really enjoyed the chilled vibes, sunset on the jetty, staff playing guitar, meeting other travelers most from asia but also some westerners. It's a simple place don't expect luxury here but you get to feel how live locals here. The lodge is in the water village so you can see the local life, buy fish to local fisherman and ask the chef to cook it. For the dive, simple but perfectly fine, it's not brand new equipment but we had no problem during our stay with our equipment, so this is the important point. Divemaster were friendly and were paying attention to avoiding bringing us to the same dive site since we were there for a few days. They know the dive site and briefing was clear specially in Sipadan where they ask us follow the rules since its' a protected area. We decided to stay in the private chalet even if it was bit expensive for us but we didn't regret it, listening to the sea while on the bed and watching sunset from the balcony is pure luxury. Basic food but we bought seafood from fisherman just in front of our chalet. Was sad to leave and waves good by to our dive master For booking we tried through the email but no response so we follow the recommendation found on tripadvisor and contacted Justine Scuba on Facebook
