Description:

River Valley is an adventure company that operates from River Valley Lodge,...

River Valley is an adventure company that operates from River Valley Lodge, an Adventure Lodge situated 32 kilometers east of the central North Island town of Taihape. What is River Valley all about? River Valley is all about rafts and horses. In fact 3 generations (since 1982)of guides have brought adventures based around river rafting and horse back riding to the general public. Rafting ranges in duration from half day Grade 5 trips on the Rangitikei River - often called one of the world's top half day Grade 5 trips - to gentle floats in the midst of spectacular scenery on our Scenic rafting trips.

Horse Trekking. The core of the River Valley Stables riding experience is the natural horse training techniques used to train our horses. This produces horses that are responsive and happy. All riding takes place over the beautiful hill country of this area - the northern Rangitikei.

Couldn't believe the stunning scenery on the way in to the lodge. The river is incredible with breathtaking beauty around each bend. Thrilling ride and our experienced guide Derek made sure everyone was catered for in terms of thrill level. Great memories for my family and I. Wish we could have hung around longer

The best rafting I ever did, it was definitely worth it! (The money and te bus drive to the hostel). The accommodation feels very home, especially without the cellphone connection!

Went white water rafting here earlier in Jan 2017. All the staff were kind welcoming and competent. The experience lasted about 3 hours. In our team of four, three we're doing it for the first time. This was not a problem as training was given during the lower grade Rapids at the start. Really good fun experience, and the accommodation... More

Fantastic trip down a stunning and challenging river. The guides make this trip possible and what it is. I have rafted several dozen rivers and have never seen guiding as competent and thorough as is carried out here. We traveled with a group of friends and everyone was blown away by how awesome the trip was and how safely the... More

While my wife went on a 1/2 day horse trek with a wonderful guide, I found a comfortable bench near the river and enjoyed reading a book and relaxing in the lovely/picturesque location. The facilities are fantastic, the meals excellent, the staff friendly and the scenery beautiful.

My wife and I spent almost 4 weeks in New Zealand and this was the best day of the trip! We did the half day White water rafting trip in the morning followed by a quick lunch and an afternoon of riding horses. Our guides were excellent, the horses well cared for and the setting was simply amazing. This was... More

Kia ora Michael Thanks for the review. Going back to a place is sometimes disappointing, but in your case your second River Valley experience seems to have also been a highlight. I hope the rest of your travels were as good. Regards Brian More

We visited River Valley adventure lodge as part of our Kiwi Experience tour and stayed for one night. We decided to splash out and stay in a private ensuite room away from the main centre of the lodge. The room was basic but excellent with a really comfortable bed and great bathroom facilities. The lodge itself is in the middle... More

Kia ora Wow! What can I say. You have really put some detail into your review, and we really appreciate that, as no doubt will other readers. By the way, yes Richie is a new guide, and while he has done a great deal many training trips, he has not been in charge of his own boat for long. He... More

We did a half day this morning on the river and had the absolute best time white water rafting with Sam! Had so much fun, felt safe and welcome the whole time and the food was so good too (Miranda's food is to die for)!! Will always remember as one of the best things we have ever done and the... More

We went white water rafting with Ants and Thommo on March 19th. We were expecting to be in a big raft with 5-6 others, but were told during our induction that we'd be in smaller rubber duckies (2 people max) that would be 'much harder and much more fun'. Accurate description. We only had a small group (4 rafters and... More

Kia ora Tinders Fantastic to read that you enjoyed your trip on the Rangitikei River so much. The 2 person inflatable kayaks we run at very low river levels can be an absolute hoot, and a lot of fun. There is also no doubt that the calibre of the guides helps to make the trip. All the best Brian Megaw More

My boyfriend and I stayed one evening at the River Valley Lodge. The evening we did the Sundowner Horse Trek with Jess and it was perfect (despite him being horribly ill with a fever!) The trek was great, even if my horse was disobedient and ate grass A LOT!! I switched horses with Jess and Alfie turned out to be... More
