This great little award-winning and family-friendly Museum contains two fun and fact-packed biographical galleries, the fantabulous interactive Story Centre and a sunny courtyard. Situated in Great Missenden where Roald Dahl lived for over 36 years, it was created as a home for the author’s archive (which visitors can see on our regular tours) and as a place to inspire creativity and a love of reading in children, about which Roald Dahl was passionate.

We visited the museum as a family of four with two children, aged 8 and 11. We all enjoyed the museum, but as we are all serious fans of Roald Dahl and have read all his books, unfortunately there wasn't really much in the museum displays that was new to us (particularly as the museum is small). However, despite this... More

I visited the museum today. Our group consisted of 3 adults and 2 children aged 8 and 10. All of us loved it! I read a review on here where someone stated that the museum and activities are solely tailored for children...wrong! Aged 32 I read a book I hadn't read before, took part in the quiz and did some... Maybe I should have known, but this place is exclusively tailored for children, and I had certain expectations that adults would be able to enjoy the museum experience, but I was mistaken. For me, it was a waste of money. Too small and all the activities are exclusive for children. On a positive note, all staff is very polite and... More

Dear Monica, Many thanks for your review, I’m sorry your visit didn’t live up to your expectations. Our Museum is aimed at 6 to 12 year olds and their families, whilst we do state this in our promotional material and on our website, we do on occasion welcome adult visitors without children. Most of these visitors enjoy their time in... More

What a fantastic place to visit with your children or grandchildren . My grandson and I had a wonderful time learning all about ?Rohal Dahal and what inspired him to write his amazing stories. Oliver was able to imagine what it was like to be a proletariat in the Second World War by actually being in the cockpit of a... More

My husband and I took our 5 and 7yr old boys. I wasn't expecting too much as I knew it was small and that some people had only spent an hour there. I thought we'd do the walks as well but we didn't have time. We all loved it so much we went round twice and spent almost four hours,... More

Although this place is small, it's just so lovely! :) We took my little sister for her birthday and she hasn't got the best attention span, however there was enough interactive things (dressing up, big props and tactile exhibitions) that meant I was also able to enjoy reading the longer parts. We had a story in Miss Honeys classroom that... More

We spent 4.5 hours here! We hadn't expected to be there that long as we'd read the reviews but our children (just 3 and just 5) were completely engaged throughout and we didn't notice time passing by. The exhibitions are small but a lot of thought has gone into it and there are interactive aspects every few steps. We also... More
