Stopped here on our way to Glacier National Park (highly recommend). Nice place to take photos and stretch your legs. Could not see the different colors of the lake but understand that may be seasonal. Trinket sellers there and opportunities to ride a camel or...More

Must visit place. Beautiful amazing. Its about 4 to 5 hrs drive from Kashgar but its well worth going there. Its better if u see the lake and stay night in Tashkurgan and come back the next day.

It's a pretty lake-- the air is often clear, and the vista can be lovely. It's a good location to take a break, stretch your legs. There's nothing to *do* there, but that's okay. The highway trip is long, ad it's nice to break it...More

An excellent way to escape some of the sights and sounds of Kashi. My visit was in the morning where there were very few people, ie peaceful. In any case, an excellent respite from the city.

From Karakul Lake you can have a very nice view to the peak of 7546m high Mount Mushitage with the lake in front (if the weather is fine).

A visit there is absolutely worth, but be aware, the overnight stay in a yurt (round tent of the nomadic Uighur population) is not allowed any more due to security & sanitary concerns. The Mustagh Ata, just reaching up to the sky (7,570 m) is...More

It took nearly 5 hours drive from Kashi to the lake, on the way, you can see the white sandy beach which I personally think is more beautiful than the Karakul Lake. The outcome of the pictures are very nice. This area is occupied by...More

I've heard many good things about the views and scenery at Karakul Lake. But actually, it all depends upon the time of the year and even the day of the week when you visit. My wife and I traveled along the Karakoram Highway the last...More

A pristine lake surrounded by majestic mountains that are reflected off the lake's surface. The entire place is picture perfect. At sunrise the sun rises behind the mountains making sun rise worth getting up for! I can't say how beautiful this place was.

Visiting Karakul lake is compulsory if you are in Kashgar. The Karakoram highway towards Tashkorgan is now nearly 100% fully paved with new and repaired roads. Enjoyed the scenes of snow-capped mountains all the way to Tashkorgan. Personally I don't think a night stay at...More

It depends. If u want to experience it, than it is worth to try it. But at night it is very cold. Even with a few layers of quilt, is still very cold.

There was construction and expansion of the Karakoram Highway when we were there in early October 2016. It was never closed so it should be open in April.
