Fortress of Bard complex is the protagonist of a wide project aimed at the creation of a cultural pole in the Western Alps of Italy. From impregnable defence for the valley the Fortress has been transformed into a gateway to the Alps’ culture and traditions, with a museum centre in the forefront of the international scenery dedicated to the mountain. Nowadays the Fortress offers only a part of the several activities planned by the project, whose purpose is to bring together innovative cultural spaces, services and accommodation in one single structure. To complete the project, in addition to the Museum of the Alps, The Children’s Alps, and the space for temporary exhibitions, Fortress of Bard will host two other museums (Frontiers Museum; Fortress Museum), an info-point to promote the cultural artistic heritage of Valle d’Aosta Region (already working); a school area provided with a lecture room for lessons, meetings and film projections; two conference rooms; a media centre; historical and thematic paths; a small refined hotel, a restaurant and a café (already working).

Very good tourist attraction even the disabled are well catered for with wheel chair access throughout. Given that this is on a steep hillside with an underground car park the lift and 4 stage funicular make it an attractive proposition. Video displays in all areas...More

Absolutely stunning from the outside, unfortunately not much inside, a lot of rooms showing history and arts. The Prisons are nice, to understand how they were and a little history of the place. View is great, both walking to the top and from the elevator

Just brilliant to visit this imposing fortress that dominates the valley. The Alps museum has some really bonkers multimedia exhibits as well traditional stuff about the history of life in the alps, including flora and fauna. Something for everyone, but most explanations only in French...More

The fortress itself is fascinating and has beautiful views from the ramparts higher up. The exhibits have different prices for entry - some are free, and there are some combination tickets for the exhibits. We enjoyed a couple of them, but the kids found it...More

there are trains and buses in that area. For sure it is feasible and no need to go back to Aosta. Only issue is December. It might be already snowing.
