As the castle & the cable car were still shut, we decided to walk up & it was well worth it. It was a very pleasant walk although steep & the views over the little town surrounded by mountains were stunning. Despite the castle being closed, there is a small part that you can enter. Very enjoyable.

Hohenwerfen Castle is a place must visit both because of historical significance So I for the classic film Where Eagles Dare. You also need to look at the bird show .. something fantastic. The admission is free with salzburg card.

This castle is not the most picturesque I've ever seen and the lack of the Where Eagles Dare cable car is a let down (small funicular takes you up but it's a nice walk if you feel energetic) but the place is good. The Movie links to Sound of Music and Where Eagles Dare are good draws which they don't... More

It's a beautiful Castle with a nice tour. You can choose for many languages, even Dutch. The museum is nice but you have to like wapens.

The place is full of wonder and history that is well interpreted for everyone. Cost is minimal. Walk up can be hard but take the little train up to the top. HIghly recommend for all. Was here previously 7 years ago. The place doesn't change. It's marvellous! It must be seen along with Eisriesenwelt (Ice caves). Attraction is pet and kids friendly. has museums, guided tours and simply great spot to spend couple of hours or more.

Walked up from train station. The walk along the river was the only flat part of the hike. Was a pretty steep climb the majority of the way. They do have a parking lot closer to the top where you can take a short gondola to the top, but we didn't have a car. Lots of steps when you get... More

I went to Hohenwerfen thinking I might watch the falcon show if I happened to get there around the right time, but I wasn't really to concerned about that. Thankfully the timing was right, because that falcon show is the without a doubt the main reason to visit this castle. You can get really close up to the birds and... More
