It takes one's breath away to realize the scope of the devastation in Wenchuan. China's educational focus in creation of the Memorial Site does much to honor those lost. The preservation of the ruins makes one take responsibility for safeguarding one's own, but even the best planning and preparedness would obviously not have helped protect those living on this fault... More

On the way back from JGZ to Chengdu, we stopped by the 2008 earthquake memorial site. On our way back after visiting Wenchuan and Maoxian, our guide detoured and stopped for us to view the 2008 Earthquake Memorial Site. This was actually the site of Xuankou Secondary School which was destroyed during the earthquake. The buildings remained as they were after the quake and the whole area has been cordoned off and made a memorial site.... More
