The Lurgrotte is one of the largest show caves in Austria. In fact there are two parts you can visit. Many years ago it had been even possible to cross a trail between both parts before it was destroyed by flooding. On this tour I was told there are thoughts to revive crossing tours but with a guide and without a pre-prepared path. Compared to the second entrance this part of the cave has the larger dome and overall a larger amount of stalactites and stalagmites around, among those the largest stalactite known so far (a formerly grown out column whose base had been destroyed in an earthquake.

I visited Lurgrotte Peggau (it's the bottom entrance to the cave that bores its way through the mountain)/ It was easyly accessible by train from Graz and about 15-minute walk.
In summer there are just 1-hour tours, in German only, but don't worry - the guide does not speak too much (or at least our didn't) and they give you a leaflet in your native language with a good description of the route.
The caves a beautiful! Artfully lit, well-kept (with stairs and railings) the route is quite comfortable, but wet!
It's vey damp inside, with water dripping from ceiling, so hood or cap would come in handy.

We went there with the family. The gorge was very cold, but the at cassa they let us stay in the warmth. The tour was nice but they only spoke German, oder steirisch :) which some of my family couldn't understand. I have seen more spectacular caves but this one is also very nice.

We visited the cave without group and booked locally a tour through the cave. (You are not allowed to visit the cave on your own anyway). At the start of the tour our guide asked who does not speak German. Two groups indicated that they would prefer to include also an English translation. The guide totally ignored this and went on with the tour in German. Elaborating in many details and taking a long time at each point. We did not understand anything. It was disappointing because we knew that the guide could speak English. He just could not be bothered. Other than that the cave is very nice and definitely worth a visit if you around.

This family owned attraction has the largest stalgtite in the world! There is also a music and lights show as part of the tour. I you ate lucky enough to be there in the fall, you can purchase a ticket for, €50pp, to a wine and cheese event. Remember to dress appropriately. The cave gets very cold. Very cold! Plan for a 90 minute visit.

We really enjoyed our visit and although we didn't understand much of the German commentary we managed to get an idea of what was being said. We were also given an English summary which was helpful. We loved the light and music show in the large cavern. The whole of the Semriach valley was beautiful, we couldn't find out much about the area before we arrived but we are glad we spent a few days here.

This was very interesting with many of the stalagmite and stalagmites millions of years old. Only in German though.

Amazing cave with face of Jesus , Witch and many other mysterious findings inside . Unbelievable age of rock - 350-450 millions of years . Small show with light and music . Worth to see!!! Be aware , some tunes really thin , no claustrophobic and kids before 3 recommended .

It has been said before but it is true that the lack of English tours is a pity. The written information provided is not sufficiently good. Having said that the cave, and particularly the dome are gems. Overall the visit is very worth it
