The El Dorada lake. where gold was thrown in to the lake. 2 hours from Bogota. Probably the best trip of our holiday. We had to join a group to walk on a very good path from the reception to the top of the rim of the crater ( not a volcano) Stiff Climb to 3100m of about 400m .... More

This is a very pleasant visit. Starts with a gentle walk and then up steps to get first of several views from four or five panoramic vantage points. Don't worry if it's your first time at this altitude, slowly, slowly and you'll be fine. Well worth it for the views....but don't forget to find out about the history behind ut.... More

The Guatavita Lagoon is where the "Cacique" (Chibcha indian Lord) covered himself in gold powder and afterwards dove in as an offering to the gods. You have to do a 10-15 min. nice walk --with and incredible view-- to get to a hill with an incredible view of the lagoon. Beforehand there is a small and very interesting talk about... More

You will walk up for around 30 minutes with guide, to see this spectacular lake in the middle of nowhere! It is very nice to reach, as you will see some beautiful landscapes. Enjoy the view from three different angles. It is quite touristic, but not to much yet! Enjoy it now you can.

I went there with a guide the day after a public holiday and the guide even checked their webpage if they were open, which they should have been. But no it was closed and security wouldn't let us in. I must say if you have a web page and Facebook and if you dont advise people about closing its pure... More

The legend of El Dorado originated from this place. Admission is cheap but you have to wait the guide. It takes about an hour or more to finish the tour.

It's quite a hike to lake Guatavita, but when one arrives to the sight a sense of calmness and tranquility overwhelms you, and you take in a panoramic view.

this is the place where the ancient people of Colombia used to go, to get their body covered in gold. While the hike itself is kind of tiring, the beauty of it is worth it, a must-see if you have time in Bogota and want to get out of the city.

This is the place where all the El Dorado legends were born! You'll join a mandatory guided tour upon arrival - this sacred site had a history of unfortunately being abused before becoming a protected park. The tour guides are excellent and will help you appreciate why this place is so important. The lake itself is beautiful as well and... More

The Laguna the Guatavita is a great day out if you want to escape the caos of Bogota. We arrived there after visiting the town of Guatavita which is very picturesc. (10000Cop from Portal del Norte, Bogota) . Be warned tho. There are several tour companies that will charge you an unecesary amount to go to the laguna. If you... More
