About
The "Nuns Valley" is a small village situated in the crater of an extinct volcano, which has kept its 16th-century Santa Clara Convent where the nuns used to hide from pirates who were attacking Funchal.

We had a quick stop here on our last day - the location of the village is stunning, the drive there is gorgeous and the chestnuts are delicious :)

After stopping at the Eira do Serrado from which the views of the valley, the mountains and the village are amazing, we stopped for coffee in the village of Curral das Freiras. There was time to visit the pretty church - Church of Nossa Senhora...More

Getting here is a feat in itself, the coach drivers deserve medals and I'd think twice before driving it myself, but plenty do. The views are breathtaking as you climb from Funchal on narrow but decently maintained roads with near sheer drops at times. At...More

We came there for lunch (1-2 p.m.). The sun was shining, the clouds were under the feet :) So, try this part of the day, but anyway it's hard to guess the weather ir Madeira. You should be ready for anything
