I spent a considerable amount of time with Antonio Zarco, Choco Elder. I had heard he passed away a few years ago. I just wanted this nice image a friend of mine shot in about 1978 to find it's way onto the internet. The Photographer is Mark Comerford, who was stationed at Howard AFB. Antonio was a friend to all... More

Pipeline Road was lovely to walk on. Birdwatchers like to go there. I would go in the early morning to see even more birds. It's a lovely road to walk on.

I live in Panama and after 3 years, I discover this wonderful place were you can experience rainforest in a unique way. I have done it twice. The first with my kids (9,5 and 1 year). We arrived at 9 am, which is kind of late to see most of the birds and considering the increasing temperature. The trails are... More

We spent a full morning at the Discovery Center with a Field Guides tour group. Arriving early we walked a short distance to the tower and then up 171 steps to the viewing platform which provides a 360 degree view of the surrounding forest. Our day was hot and humid, so we did not see as many birds as expected,... More

This is a pretty superficial trip to the rainforest but we saw a lot in an hour. The tram ride allows a good aerial view of the forest and we did see some animals. If you get a guide who is knowledgeable and enthusiastic you can have a great time. The best guide we encountered was in the frog house,... More

We are beginning birds and found a guy - not a guide - to drive us to/from Gamboa to the Rainforest Discovery Center (not Rainforest Resort for $30. Started walking up Pipeline RD at 6:30 am and saw lots of birds incl. Trogans, wood creepers, mankins, antbirds and wood peckers. Also saw 3 toed sloth and baby. Bring binoculars, be... More

We were pleased to walk into the rainforest park area and thought it quite wise that people were encouraged to walk in, to avoid disturbing the tranquility. We were surprised after walking in about 3km and climbing the tower to find a group of birders with their guide, all having driven into the center in a bus. The forest is... More

This is at the top of the Pipeline road. Entrance is an outrageous $30 each. The trail system is extremely short. There is a tower, but we saw very few birds. There is an area where there are hummingbird feeders with many hummingbirds. Very little information is given out. We saw many more birds on the road leading up to... More

Amazing viewing options - and not just for birds. We went with a guide from Gamboa Tours. I highly recommend exploring with a guide. The are so good at spotting things you just would not see yourself. Watching the hummingbirds at the center was a relaxing and amusing way to end a morning of exploring. A highlight of the day... Great place to explore solo or with guides. Birding is outstanding. The canopy tower is best seen early in the day. Birds can appear out of the mists. The hummingbird centre was so fascinating that I wanted to stay longer. A Great Tinamou walked for several metres in front of me along the main road. Luckily, I saw a Vermiculated... More
