This place is simply WOW! Amazing trees, flying foxes on the trees and flying around. Children had a time of their life running around, observing the plants and animals. You could spend a whole day here and still find something that amazes you. You shouldn't miss this, if you are in Kandy. it's a must see!

The Royal Botanical Gardens is amazing in exhibiting more than 4000 species of plants with a beautiful landscape and well maintained lawns. There are sections of Palm trees, well famous renowned Orchids, Cactus plants, Succulents, Climbers, Runners, Bushes,Shrubs, Trees, Medicinal Plants, Spices and Water Plants etc. However the ticketing gate keepers are not a match to the Royal Botanical Garden’s... We spent 2 hours walking the paths of these beautiful gardens and could have easily spent another 2 hours there. There is a souvenir shop, restaurant and drinks on the grounds. Many locals frequent the gardens as well: there were lots of smiling school children, families and young couples. Be sure to look for the huge flying foxes (fruit eating... More

This was not high on my list of sites to visit, but it was on the tour itinary. That said, to my surprise, I really enjoyed it. Despite the numerous types of plants etc, there were hundreds, if not thousands of fruit bats to be seen. I'd never seen anything like it.

We never tire of visiting these fantastic gardens. The formal beds are always beautiful, the tree collection fantastic and the information available to plant lovers like us is great. This year we were particularly impressed with the orchid house. I don't know why but all the flowers looked really fresh. Altogether it is an absolutely amazing place.

A vast impressive collection of plants and tree, lots housed in different areas or buildings. Amazing array of bats when we went flying round and visible high in the tree-tops.

We did a smart thing. Paid besides our entrance ticket 1000 Sri Lankan Rs. to a local guide who took us around the park in a golf cart & showed us everything including the history attached. It was a very nice way of seeing everything without getting tired & being bitten by insects. In the end of course he did... More
