The Mandela House is modest, sturdy and more remarkable for its inside rather than its exterior. All those same things were true of Mr. Mandela himself. First take time to read the time line inscribed on bricks around the courtyard and marvel at how many years Nelson Mandela worked for humanity. Let the enormity of his efforts dawn on you... More

It is the very small size of it that strikes you first. I was fortunate to have Jane as my guide who was very knowledgeable and made the visit to walk in his footsteps even more special

We visited the home of Nelson Mandela and we were touched to see, where he came from ' humble beginning' and he died such a humble man The house is about 60sq, and visiting each room reminded me, how fortunate we are today...and so much was sacrificed by Mandela and other leaders, so we can have freedom So much still... This small house sits on a busy street full of shops, restaurants and bars. Now an upscale neighborhood because of Mandela's house, it is well worth a visit. The house itself is small and can be very crowded. You might be just as well served by visiting the outside alone and taking in the history and progress of the area.

We visited Mandela House on our very first day in South Africa and the immediate confrontation with 'the real thing', the crowded township, the history of Apartheid told in this tiny museum, proved to be a very good starting point for the whole trip. The young local guide at Villakasie Street 8115 was enthusiastic and well trained. Be not surprised... More

This was Mandela's first house with his first and second wives and children. The house is jam packed full of memorabilia old and new from the legacy of this great mans and visionary leader.

Another must-see in Soweto. A guide takes you through the modest dwelling, giving you an overview of Mandela's life and his history in the house. Then you are free to wander through the rooms on your own. It is an intimate museum of his private and public life, with many photos, objects, honors, and awards. I had read Mandela's excellent... 8115 Vilakazi Street, Orlando West, Soweto, is a former home of Nelson Mandela. It is now a museum, which houses photographic memories, tributes, awards and memorabilia of Nelson Mandela. The character of Mr. Mandela is such that he appeared to be equally comfortable interacting with the residents of Vilakazi Street, Heads of State and members of his fairly large family.... More

On arrival we were received by a guide who guided us through the history of the struggle before we toured the famous house. Each room had its history, there were video recordings to listen to, writings and pictures of the eventful times. The narration of the struggle brings appreciation of the icon Nelson Mandela who still lives through the pages of...
