On arrival we were received by a guide who guided us through the history of the struggle before we toured the famous house. Each room had its history, there were video recordings to listen to, writings and pictures of the eventful times. The narration of the struggle brings appreciation of the icon Nelson Mandela who still lives through the pages of... The Mandela family museum is a great place to visit if you want to understand about South Africa's history. Mementos and memorabilia of Nelson Mandela can be found here. It's a small place so you won't take a long time here but there's a lot to see on this street.

Excellent history, much of which you won't read in books. The tour is pretty short but worth the time.

Ultimately this is a very simple and somehow unassuming house in soweto, but it is worth the visit because it is a place densely packed with history. Seeing the tiny rooms where Mandela grew up and lived, and Soweto itself and imagining how it must have been from the tales of the guides is quite a reality check.

This house has been restored and for sure does not really look anymore like it probably was in the past. However, it still gives a good impression how this must have been. The area is accessible and safe as well. Make sure you do not skip this piece of history when you're in Johannesburg!

It's a small house on a tiny lot, but man oh man, it's an important place. The tour took about 15 minutes...lots of tourists...however, I got a real sense of Mandela and perhaps even more so--Winnie. Definitely worth braving the street vendors and traffic to be in the same spot as a world-changer.

This is house that Mandela and his wife Winnie and two children lived in. She got this house because she worked for government at the hospital. The home contains many awards that they received and personal mementos. For us what was important to notice was the charred bricks from 2 attempts to burn the house down while they lived there.... We had a guided tour through Mandela's house which provided more information about Mandela. It is a quick stop.

Although it was interesting to see this home, I did not gain much knowledge. Our tour guide seemed to speak from a script and had trouble deviating for questions. Found out soooooo much more about Nelson Mandela and his life at the apartheid museum. Could have skipped this and spent more time at the museum.

Great history in this house and yard. Our tour guide (who is a trainee) was very informative. Lots to see.
