We visited the museum and the cave because it is an UNESCO site. The collections that inside the museum are small mostly make up by pictures , posters n science gadgets more suitable for students excursion trip. The so- call tunnel ride supposedly depicts the evolution n formation of earth turns out just a bumpy ride with sub standard lightings... More

It was finally time to tick off another one of the tourism highlight in Gauteng. I am passionate about the West Rand and the incredible hotels, adventure activities and cultural destinations. Maropeng is the interpretation centre where much of the background of the Cradle of mankind World heritage site is explained. It well laid out and has some fascinating architecture.... More

The Cradle of Humankind is World Heritage site where was discovered 2.3 million year old fossil of Australopithecus Africanus. Indoor exhibition show many other human fossils. Experienced university student who study anthropology took us through the cave and explained the discoveries, work progress and anthropologists behind it. Very interesting place to visit and information shared.

We went after a very interesting and enjoyable trip to the Steenkamp caves and Maropeng (will report separately on this). The Cradle of Humankind museum is beautifully landscaped and very well laid out and informative for kids with lots of hands on activities which will add knowledge and make it more interesting. There is a water ride near the beginning... More

Visited here on a rainy day so did not benefit from the outside surroundings, but the exhibition is informative & interesting but perhaps a little tired as several of the inter active units were not working? The most "wow" factor was a boat ride simulating the passing of time as the earth was developed. Well worth a visit to understand... More

Old artefacts. Brilliant Tour Guides. Loved the cave. The boat ride was my favourite part. Really great value for money.

This space so beautifully preserved the remains of some of the oldest artifacts and bone structure known to man. The tour guides are very well informed and the it's all beautifully displayed. I wanted to go on a hot air ballon ride but I found out you have to make it there supper early for that. We missed the caves... More

We felt that we would have preferred a personal guided tour through the exhibition instead of making our way through on our own, reading the displays as we went. No staff on hand to answer questions either. You take a boat ride through the different ages but be warned that it is really dark and in some places the 'rocks'... More
