The monastery is located in Tipova, about 83 km from Chisinau. The map shows 50-60 km but its not true, the car showed 83 km. When you'll have about 15-18 km to the destination point the road is getting awful especially in the summer because every car that pass by you makes a lot of dust and even little rocks... More

The road to Tipova Monastery from the main road is not in an excellent shape, but can be easily done with a normal car. The cave monastery is hidden in the rocks that form the banks of the river Nistru. The monastery itself is small, but thanks to its location (and the fact that there were no other people around,... This is a fantastic old monastery within some stone walls - but there is quite alot of stairs down to get there! But very much worth it, not only for the monastery, but also the view across the river. It's just over 1.5 hours from Chisinau to Tipova. It was well worth it as we were shown round by the guy who lives and works onsite. He only speaks Russian and a little Romanian but we did manage to work out what he was saying. After the main church, there are steps down to the caves which are quite... More
