Mah Meri Orang Asli Cultural Village is a must. You get to sample their native games eg Blowpipes and Congkak. You must try weaving the Nipah leaves, taught by their young ladies weavers... whilst the men will get you to try their native puzzles games.. very friendly bunch and you will enjoy your time here. Best time to visit is the weekends and public holidays..

I was born in this beautiful Island on 23 December 1945, called Pulau Carey. At the age of 6 with my 4 other siblings migrated to nearby mainland town Klang and started my primary and secondary school in Simpang Lime Tamil School and Anglo Chine (English) School respectively. Me late eldest brother was our guardian and took care of us whilst my parents worked as laborers in Pulau Carey. It was very tough as we were very poor. Finally now I am 76 + years old with a happy family of 7 children. It is the blessings of God that we are safe and healthy and happy. We thank the Lord for his mercy, caring, love and protection.

The whole island is below sea level, the whole island is all bunded up to prevent the sea water from getting into the island and is kept under constant surveillance to prevent "flooding"
The whole island is akin to a small township with all basis infrastructure with a well develop road network but not paved except for a certain main section.
Certain section of the road system is one way in with another one way out,so you won't be using the same section for entrance and exit.
This island had no drinking water resources, all water pipe in from the mainland 24/7.
This palm oil plantation with the 2 crude palm oil factories on the island supply electricity to the whole of the plantation and also with standby diesel generator during non production .
These 2 oil mills use waste fuel from the crude palm oil processing to power the whole system+the plantation>>an eco friendly system >>waste fuel for power generation for the factory and supporting staffs/workers complex

Interesting things on the island.Aborigine villages for the famous wood craving ,fishing and cash crop/fruit.
Oil Palm plantation.
Herbal garden,tea tree farm .
Old Chinese temple
Club house,colonial buildings.
Beach but the water is murky and muddy.

Annual events:Aborigine festival every April :date to be ascertain?

How to get there:KL - Klang - telok Panglima.
As this is a private destination, there is no public transport to this island.
From Telok panglima ,follow the direction to Carey Island ,you will see few sea food restaurants before the connecting bridge to the island, then follow the signage and you won't get lost cos it is an Island.

Carey Island is only 1 hour from KL but is home to the Mah Meri people, an aboriginal Orang Asli group who still strongly believe in the spirit world.

The most well know manifestation of this is the annual celebration that takes place approx 1 month after Chinese New Year. This is a celebration of life with dancing, music and feasting. Visitors are general welcome.

The celebration is a visual treat with Dancers dressed in pandan leaf & bark clothing with the males wearing large wooden masks comprising a range of expressions. During the celebrations the tribes bomoh is available in the spirit house and will provide blessing to those that want, daubing them with a mixture of flour and water

To check out timings of the annual spirits day contact the Mah meri cultural village which is adjacent to Sungei Bumbun. The cultural centre can also be visited all year round and provides an insight into the Mah Meri beliefs and Culture.

A good drive to Tanjung Sepat before we made our way to Carey Island. We had lunch by the Langat river. A good seafood lunch of "kam heong'' crabs, salted egg prawns, steamed garoupa with "choy poh" and sweet potato leaves in garlic. Good lunch beside the river. Some days the crabs have tasted real good and today it was at its best. Do try their pineapple juice, tad sweet.

Food here is above average. Price is average too. The crabs and prawns were particularly fresh though. Regret that there is no WiFi in the premise and internet connection is not available.
