This place has been on our list of places we want to visit for quite a while. We came with certain expectations and weren't disappointed.
The buildings all over the area give you a nice overview of the rural areas in Austria. The gardens and fields are well cared for and round up the great impression.
Furthermore you get additional info where needed and people aren't bothering you trying to tell you things or trying to sell their stuff.
We really enjoyed it and were glad it was able to live up to our expectations.

This open air museum has 100 buildings from each region of Austria. They have a wide variety of traditional log cabins, timber framed buildings and brick/stone buildings. This really gives you an idea how ancestors lived long ago. They have great exhibits about Christmas Traditions, construction techniques and life in Austria. I believe some buildings are at least 300 or more years old. We went in a rainstorm and really enjoyed everything we saw. They also have an excellent restaurant in the middle of the site with very traditional Austrian dishes ( literally the best we have ever had!). Our family enjoyed this place!! Well worth a stop and visit!!
I believe they also have living history people showing the various farm and carpentry skills, unfortunately this didn't happen when we were there due to rain.
It is open 1 April through 31 October, daily, except Mondays, 9:00 am till 5 pm

What an extraordinary collection of about 100 buildings, mostly farmhouses, but not only, from all over Austria, with their distictive architectural lay-outs and styles.
It is a stark reminder of how difficult farming and everyday life were for our ancestors. And also, how little they had in terms of material goods, besides their farm house, passed along for dozens of generations. It also shows how clever they were at making household items, tools and farming implements and even machinery, mostly out of wood.
We really liked the schoolhouse and the 19th century look of the classroom. What an immense revolution in the coutry side to send children, including girls (!) to school for at least 4 years to learn beasic reading, writing and math skills. Emperess Maria Theresia and her advisors, who introduced compulsory schooling in the mid-18th century, were truly visionaries.
To visit all the buildings in some detail takes at least 4 hours. The ground are huge and meticulously kept, as are the buildings, their veggie gardens and the flowered windows and balconies.
Do consult the website to find out when they have live craft demos.
The guide book, alas only in German, is excellent.
Highly recommended!

We've lives in Graz for just over a year and this is one of our favourite places to go, especially with guests.
The Valley is just beautiful with no traffic and wild flowers. There are so many building to look in you can't see everything in one day.
The stream is great for kids to play in on a hot day.
The food at the Gasthaus is nice and big portions.
Areas for improvement: Information for Non German speakers.
Slightly more activities or demonstrations.
(Yet to go on one of there special theme days)

The museum made an interesting day out on a cool summer's day. Farm buildings, tools and all sorts of other things from the rural districts of Austria are displayed. The setting is beautiful and it makes a nice walk. One needs to calculate at least a couple of hours. Children will enjoy this museum, lots of things to explore, a quiz to do and some little crafts to try. There is a restaurant, which we enjoyed. My only criticism would be, no signage in English and although visitors can stay till 6, everything e.g. the shop, coffee shop, restaurant, the old village shop display and most other things closed at 5. My mother, who has restricted mobility struggled a little and it would have been nice to have transport ( a horse and cart, electric car? ) back to the car park as the museum isn't constructed on a circular walk, but a long way up and down.
All in all though a good day out!

I was unlucky to get a rainy day on my visit to this museum and this fact spoilt the imperssion a little bit. It was a weekday too, so very few people, including the guides and animators (or how should we call the staff that goes workshops on different crafts?)
In general: very nice, picturesque setting, well-kept grounds, pleasant walk, nice smell :)))
Very pity, no information in English. Even no thorough booklet in the shop. So just gasing without understanding leaves you with a small impression of wasted time...
I also expected more souvenier shops (just one), cafes (just two, both very basic) and stands with local food (none).

This is an open-air museum, which can be an interesting option if one has one spare day in Graz. Getting there without the car is a bit complicated: we went there during the week (we were told that it is much more difficult to get there during the weekend) by taking bus 110 at 9am from Lendplatz, for return trip we took bus at 1.30am with one change on the way (the driver was very helpful). We found there many original and historic farm buildings from all over Austria. One can see how difficult the life in countryside was in old times. The museum covers a large area but the walk is very nice, we are in the woods, occasionally meeting some animals (we met donkey and goats). The big problem there is information for non-German speakers. The booklet in English given at the entrance is very laconic and all descriptions of houses are exclusively in German, which leaved us guessing about the purpose of different buildings. Looks like the place is aimed for local tourists only, which is a pity, because the museum is really nice choice for a day trip, especially for kids.

The road to the museum is a bit complicated due to some reconstruction so rather read the map before you go. The museum is nice and large containing from aprox. 90 houses which are located in the valley between the mountains. I was wearing flip flops which proved to be sometimes difficult so rather take better shoes :). The observation I had is that much didnt change in the architecture as there are houses which look very similar to the once you see in Austria driving to the mountains. As I have visited the village museum in Sibiu, Romania I have to say that Stuebing is nice but not overwhelming. But in case of nice weather a very nice walk

If you visit Austria and especially Styria and the city of Graz you probably find half a day to visit this open-air heritage village. Grab yourself somebody who takes you there (public transport is available but not so comfy) and translates and explains for most signs etc might be in German. Then you can enjoy walking through the gorgeous little valley this village is build in; explore buildings hundreds of years old; see how peasants, shopkeepers and laborers lived and worked; and enjoy the silence and positive charisma this place and the surrounding deciduous forest have (unless you go there on a busy summer Sunday afternoon - then the silence will probably be a little less). If you have the choice I would recommend to go there in spring or fall time to find the place in the prettiest colors. I don't know what more to say than - if you enjoy the combination of nature and culture as much as I do, you should definitely go there! And if you did so - let me know how you liked it :)

Great oportunity to see how people use to live in the past centuries. Lots of houses from dfferent regions, mostl open to visit, with some exhibitions... The valley is quiet, trafficless so good option for a long walk.
