Great day of snorkeling and stand up paddle boarding. Beach was a little crowded, but it's to be expected with how nice it is. Avoid Sundays if you can. Lots of locals from San Jose come here and it's super crowded. Our tour included lunch....More

Tortuga Island indead are several small islands. The main island has a beautiful beach. The main beach is completely commercial and can be noisy. You can rent chairs, kayaks etc. We went to the island in the low season - I would not go there...More

Isla Tortuga has a beautiful white sand beach with lots of palm trees and turquoise waters. There are plenty of loungers (to rent) and activities (at a fair price). I loved the large colorful and playful iguanas that come down by the bbq area where...More

Wonderful beach, only accessible by boat. Snorkeling on the other islands was amazing. Plan to spend half a day to enjoy the vibe.

We did an excursion through Hotel Vista las Islas. The boat ride included a stop by Spider Monkey Island and snorkeling (great). The island was pretty but quite crowded with messy (lots of coral and driftwood) white sand. If you are spoiled by Caribbean or...More

Snorkel was a 2 of 10. Cloudy water, not many fish, not very tropical like I expected. Island itself was pretty, very nice beach & swimming. $7usd charge for a beach lounge chair & 1$ to use the bathroom. The tour group we went with...More

The beach and the surrounding are beautiful. The islands host deer. monkeys, javelinas and miriads of birds. During the morning and until 3 PM lots of vessels will bring hundreds of people, so expect loud music, powerboats all over without much regulations and crowded snorkeling.

hi Beck it is very far away from san jose and believe me this country is so beautiful that you don't need to aim all the way to tortuga. I don't recommend to waste your time and money on this island. There is absolutely... More

Hello, I want to book a tour from san jose to tortuga island on 26th april, i-e sunday. I have seen many reviews and different tour options, Many questions: 1) Which tour would be best (not costly as well like only till $125 not more) As i learnt about this tour through american airlines tour website. Now then when i searched more there are many others like Viator , Anywhere costa rica, etc. Now which one to go for any idea? Because as i wanted to be on safe side i was going for airline related website considering it to be more authentic but you people mst know more guide accordingly. 2)Secondly, I found an association between this american airline tour of from san jose to tortuga with Viator's tour so even if it is the same tour is it better to buy directly from the website like Viator or through some agent website like american airline? 3)Do these tours provide a wet suit as well for snorkeling? I searched but there was no info at hand ? 4)Also for snorkeling do they stop some distance away from the beach or we can go snorkeling even after stopping at the beach? 5)Many people mentioned, beach was crowdy etc etc, so we kayaked to some other alone place on the island what i dont understand is why do a person has to take a kayak boat and travel to some other place on island that i not crowded when he can easily walk all the way there? Maybe i am unable to understand the concept of kayak Please kindly elaborate so that i can make decisions?
