We brought our passports but they did not check. Second show is better since it is dark out. Get a sheet about the show at the desk, there is a story. There are monkeys here, so be careful with your stuff.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 13 October 2023

- Marshall HPhitsanulok, Thailand910 contributionsA tip and a warning. The admission fee allows access to the temple and the cliff walk path. TIP: Do not go to the temple. Why not ?. First there are some serious steps. When you get to the top there is nothing much to see. You cannot enter the temple itself, and the picturesque shrine that is featured in photos, on the cliff top, is totally obscured. A waste of time. To experience a beautiful view of the temple and shrine just proceed to the cliff walking path and distance yourself from the temple. Here is how to access it. When you first enter the grounds, you will go down a hill. At the bottom you will see the steps to the temple ahead and on your left. Skip them. Proceed on the paved walk way to the right about a 100 meters. You will come to a crossroads of sort, with directional signs. Go down the path on the left, this will put you on the cliff walk. From there you can see the temple and shrine and walk along the beautiful coastline. WARNING: Upon entry you will see warnings about the monkeys. Take this VERY SERIOUSLY. They are crafty, fast and viscous. During our time there we personally witnessed three attacks: one snatched a ladies sunglasses right off her face, one grabbed a ladies I phone and ran away with it. Another jumped on my wife to get her camera, but it was on straps around her neck. When he could not get it he was very threatening, fortunately a local chased him away. Do not have any items that are not attached to you. ie sunglasses, hats, camera. If your camera is not attached and you want to make a picture have someone be very vigilant for monkeys,Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 21 October 2023
- Bryan OMelbourne, Australia255 contributionsMonkey business on showIt’s a busy location with lots of tourists but it’s worth the trip. It’s a relatively quick tour to do with some spectacular views but the stars of the show are the Monkeys 🙈. They are quite bold and adventurous, they will try their best to snatch what they can. We saw them grab books, leaflets, sarongs and glasses in our trip as well as chase a few tourists. Tip for the visit, don’t engage the monkeys as chase you down! We saw one Indian tourist get chased through the temple after confronting a monkey 🐵!Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 25 November 2023
- VanIsleMonkeyNanoose Bay, Canada360 contributionsBeautiful grounds!Beautiful temple! Although the temple is beautiful, it is underwhelming compared to the grounds. The grounds are vast and very inviting! Views are amazing. We enjoyed the grounds for sunset. Be careful of the monkeys though - they are sneaky little buggers! Many snatching sunglasses off peoples faves and hats off heads. There was also a white monkey isolated due to it being different and other monkeys bullying/abusing it for being different - so it has a large cage where it is protected.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 November 2023
- Ashan GnanasegaramSydney, Australia439 contributionsSpectacular setting... underwhelming temple experienceThe views were worth it. The temple is quite spectacular in its setting on the cliff top. Be aware that the temple itself seems to be closed to tourists which leaves the grounds to be explored. The area is quite nicely maintained and there are several statues. However the monkeys are indeed quite cheeky and had held ransom the possessions of many visitors until the temple staff were able to retrieve them - sunglasses, hats and even a slipper were taken in our short time there. Overall, not the best experience... but worth a quick visitVisited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 December 2023
- Belinda WSydney, Australia8 contributionsBreathtaking and tenseNot for the frail or faint hearted! Keep your wits about you and your possessions close. I saw a monkey snatch glasses right off a woman’s face, while others were sitting around chewing on their newfound possessions. One monkey had my dad clear in his sights and made several attempts to charge for him. I swiped at him with my straw hat and we managed to scurry away but they don’t back down easily. The grounds perched high above the Pacific Ocean are breathtaking, enhanced by the sound of the waves below and the vast flora at eye level.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 3 January 2024
- mem1378Adelaide, Australia97 contributionsGood cultural experienceWe arrived at 5pm and managed to buy tickets for the 7pm Kecak performance. Waited outside where there are small stalls with chips, water etc Went in at 6.30pm and waited in a long line until they cleared out the earlier session. Moved us in quickly, seats are quite close together. First 30mins of the show was a bit slow but worth staying for the amazing fire finale! Kids were very impressed! We made sure everything was packed away and didn’t have phones out near the monkeys and walked past them quickly. Saw one monkey run up to a man and one steal someone’s glasses. We didn’t have any issues with them. A great way to experience some culture. Didn’t visit the temple after reading all the reviews about the monkeys!Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 11 January 2024
- Sirisha318 contributionsBreathtaking - must visitWe went to the temple along with our car driver. Cost of entrance is 50,000 IDR. The views were breathtaking. We saw lots of monkeys on the way. We also saw the monkeys steal quite a few glasses right off the faces of visitors. It was quite amusing.. my son was wearing a silver chain and my daughter had a huge Sony camera in her hands but the monkeys did not come to grab them even when we were extremely close. The whole walk took about an hour. We did not attend the dance. We saw a lot of people lining up for the dance. We could not see the sunset as there were clouds. Overall it was a fantastic experience. Highly recommended. Tip: keep spectacles/glasses, hats, mobile phones in pocket or bag. Do not bring food and drink on the walk as the monkeys can smell it and get aggressive.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 14 January 2024

The temple complex is impressive with a nice cliff side walk and Hindu temple. The entrance fee is Rp50,000 and sarongs are provided at no charge if you need to cover up your legs. There are a few sections along the walk where the monkeys can get aggressive. Be careful to secure any loose items like glasses, hats, and cell phones. Otherwise you could end up having them taken by the monkeys. We also booked tickets for the Kecak Fire Dance. You can buy them on site for Rp150,000. I purchased mine online at Klook for Rp140,000 and the e-tickets were delivered right to my phone. This way you can bypass the on-site lineup. I recommend going there an hour before it starts if you want to get a good seat. You are given a synopsis as you enter the theatre so you can understand what is happening. The Kecak Fire and dance was a very good show with an incredible backdrop as the sunsets over the cliff. When the show ends, there is a mass exodus of people. So be sure to have pre-arranged transportation out of the area. We had a great experience at Uluwatu temple and would highly recommend it.

Beautiful views and sunset. we bought tickets to the Kecak Fire Dance as well. The dance is slow starting but once it does get going it's most entertaining, this show is in demand and we were advised to get our tickets before 5pm . We did we sat opposite the sea and got beautiful shots of the sunset as well.

Uluwatu Temple and kecak dance its a must visit place if you are staying near Kuta. Very good experience and a must see place. The kecak dance is one of a kind and it's an amazing performance. It will take about 45min to get to the place by motorcycle from Kuta Town. It's advisable to get a motorcycle if you can ride since the traffic will be bad towards the temple and it will be the same when returning back. You will safe a lot of time if you ride motorcycle. If you can't ride than you may get a local guide to take you to this place. Best time to get there is before 3pm. You will have ample time to walk around and take good pictures. There will be 2 entry tickets, one would be getting into the area and another one is for you to watch the kecak dance performance. The entry fees for entering the place is IDR 50000 = USD 3 to USD 4 and for the kecak dance is IDR100000 = USD 7 to USD 4. The best option would be getting the ticket once you reach the place. Not advisable to get it online. However for kecak dance you will have to line up early before 5pm and get your ticket early so you can find a good seat at the open auditorium. You will be given a piece of cloth for free to tie around you before entering the place. Overall experience it's an amazing experience

The Balinese Hindu sea temple located in Uluwatu, the west coast of the island is another popular tourist destination in Bali. This temple sits on top of a steep cliff, approximately 70m above the ocean, and is known for its stunning location, magnificent views of the sunset and ocean. The temple is surrounded by a small forest, which is home to hundreds of monkeys. It is believed that these monkeys are the guardians of the temple. Another special feature you can enjoy at this temple is the Kecak dance performed every evening, against the backdrop of the sunset.

Amazing views over the Indian Ocean from the old temple area. So many tourists that you can’t get the calm atmosphere you should, but still worth a visit.
You are warned by signs at the entrance for the monkeys picking your stuff, it’s real. I walked slowly with the iPhone in my hand, and one cheeky monkey took it out of my hand. The guards were great, with a lot of patience and distraction he finally left it after 30-40 minutes, but down on the cliffs where only the guards could and were allowed to go. The funny thing is that the monkey called a friend in the us, called me back I I told him the story 😂😂

Visited the temple and watched Kecak dance in early Dec’22, after reading lot of praise online. The temple is situated on a cliff, and the views from the cliff are definitely very beautiful. Make sure you walk to the end of the path on both sides of the temple for stunning views. Keep an eye out for the monkeys; they will happily snatch sunglasses from your head and anything else of interest that you are holding. If they take something, don’t engage with them yourself and ask a temple guard to help you; guards have sweets that they give to the monkey and monkey drops your object to take 2 sweets at once! The temple praying chamber itself, like many others in Bali, is closed to the public.
On the day we went, tickets to the 6 PM dance performance had sold out in a few mins after they started selling them. My driver said large tour groups buy them in advance directly. However, we found some people selling them in black (without any markup) inside as well. We watched the 7 PM show, and used the one hour before the show to capture sunset photos. It’s held in a moderate size, open air amphitheater (500-1000 people seated at one time), and the ocean is behind the stage. Make sure you get seats in/ around the center of the amphitheater if you want a view of the ocean. The show itself was underwhelming, despite all the hard work by the performers. The sunset is hardly visible from the location, and the continous “kac kac” (p.s. the dance is named for this) from the performers seemed to distract from the plot.
Summary - Watch it to cross it off your Bali list, but moderate your expectations.

Its an old Hindu temple built at a cliff. More than temple its famous for Kecak Dance performance that takes place every evening in an open theater with beautiful sunset in the background.
For me not a must visit place except for Kecak performance.

Overly crowded during evening period because many tourists arrived for the Uluwatu Dance. Though the sight at the top was beautiful, it was definitely not as impressive as Tanah Lot nor any other sights with an ocean cliff. Not suitable areas to really sit and enjoy the views like in Tanah Lot. I would only recommend if you really have no where else to visit, else make time for Tanah Lot instead. It much more beautiful during sunset.

CAUTION!
Paid 100k to see a temple that we couldn't enter.
We were asked to pay 50k per person for the entrance fee for the temple, which closes right as the show ends. So you are only able to see the temple before the show.
We saw many people enter the temple after the show (even people that watched the same show as us), but we were stopped by a guard. The guard told us to go through the main entrance (by the ticket booth), but the people there said the temple was closed for the day.
Because of poor communication from the staff we only got to see the mediocre "fire" show.
The show itself is mostly some chanting, slapstick comedy and speeches spoken in Indonesian. The advertised fire show lasts about 15 seconds, and is surprisingly underwhelming.
The arena is packed full of people, don't expect to be comfortable during the show, tons of people pressing against you from all directions.
We spent a total of 400K for 2 people, to get access to the ticket place and the "show"...
If you are considering going here as non Indonesian speaking tourist, don't bother, really not worth the time and money.

We took a private driver travelling from Kuta to Uluwatu stopping on the way for other attractions but the main attraction was the beautiful Uluwatu Temple. The most compelling part of the temple complex, however, comes from its nightly kecak and fire dance performances, which adapts the famous Ramayana Hindu epic, and plays out against a gorgeous Balinese sunset. Male sure to go early to get a seat in front and not facing the sun.
You'll be asked to wear a sash around your waist in any case and a sarong too if your clothes are too short. The entry is around usd3 and the dance is about usd7.50. It is truly an experience and highly recommended.

Hi everyone. We are going to Bali for the very busy weekend at the start of May and we would love to see the Kecak Dance. Given how busy it is, I would like to book the tickets in advance as its 1 plus hour drive from where we are staying in Seminyak. I see that there is a website called kecakdancebali. com I wanted to check if anyone has booked on that site before or not. Please let me know!

I am a mother of two children and I do not see any obstacle to visit the temple with a two-year old. There are just a few steps and no long distances. Watch out only crazy monkeys, do not wear glasses or carry any shiny bottles. If possible go inside without any staff.

Is Kecak dance happening these days? I am planning to visit Uluwatu on Sunday 22nd May and was really hoping to catch the Kecak dance performance in evening. Somebody told me it's closed these days as less tourists in Bali. Not sure if it's correct.
Also, how do I book tickets for Kecak? Is it advisable to pre-book online beforehand or I can just buy the tickets on the spot?

Hi, for the Kecak and Fire Dance Ticket you can book on Kecakdancebali. and for now show schedule is everyday at 18.00
we highly recommend to book in advance, to guarantee for your seat

Hi, the show it self start at 18.00-19.00. We suggest to come at the Uluwatu Temple aroung 17.00 so you can still have time to see around the temple. so just prepare 3 hours to do this trip.
