    Need to plan well
Need to plan your route well. Not easy to get up with public transport as many hikers and the buses up mountain are always full and comes between 20-40min intervals. We waited and missed 2 buses over an hour due to the overcrowding and finally took taxi up from xinbeitou station which costs 400twd. Coming down also similar problem with bus waiting times. But otherwise beautiful scenery, however too hot already at 9am due to the long bus waits and tiring to walk. Ensure plenty of water and hydration.

Beautiful and clean! A must go
We travelled here via a small tour bus and the park is absolutely beautiful! It can get a little slippery at time because of the rocks so please be careful. Apart from that, the place was beautiful and clean. Highly recommended :)

    lush landscapes
just a short drive from Taipei, Yangmingshan National Park is a serene escape that seamlessly blends natural beauty, cultural richness, and recreational opportunities. My recent visit to this Taiwanese gem left me impressed and rejuvenated. The park's lush landscapes offer a striking contrast to the bustling city life, providing a haven for nature lovers. From rolling hills to volcanic craters, every corner of Yangmingshan boasts picturesque views. The iconic Calla Lily fields are a visual delight, especially during the blooming season, painting the hillsides with vibrant hues.

Worth going on a nice day
It was a beautiful day when we visited and the ride on the bus up the mountain was as enjoyable as the views. The hot springs was a disappointment with only an inch of water at the pool where people were gathering to soak their feet. The springs had a sulphuric odor which made it unappealing. It’s only A short walk from the springs to the Mountain View’s where u can hike a number of trails all easy to moderate hikes. There are wild buffalo grazing with interesting history worth reading the signage. Beautiful views.

Beautiful scenery if it is not raining or fogged up
We booked a driver for 6 h via klook for a direct pickup from hotel ( The driver only contacted us the day before at 3 pm after his trip) . The first stop was at lengshuikeng - a small lake with steam coming out from the surrounding rocks as well as two foot baths. Next stop was flower clock . We were so blessed to catch the cheery blossoms and flowers in full bloom . Then there was xiaoyoukeng where you get to see steam bellowing out from the small crater. We then went for a hike from Lengshuikeng visitor centre to Qingtiangang. The hike was 1.8 km walking on rocky footpaths and climbing many many steps passing a swinging bridge. I would not recommend this hike to those with bad knees . At Qingtiangang, we were greeted with a fog that reduced visibility to almost zero . We then proceeded to zhiuzihu to have a traditional chicken lunch but as it was a public holiday , all restaurants were full. So we did not get to try the chicken nor see the calla Lilly’s but our driver brought us to a famous beef noodle restaurant instead near the hotel . Overall a wonderful trip with Leon as our driver. Tip: do not go to yangmingshan if it is raining . This was our third trip and was the only trip where we saw the beauty of this mountain . All the other times , it was fogged up .

Yangmingshan is not just one mountain but rather a collection of mountains that spreads over both Taipei and New Taipei - we thoroughly loved hiking and exploring the different scenic routes here. Visited in November 2019 and saw all the autumn foliage with the cows at Qing Tian Gang and the romantic silver grass opposite sulphury fumaroles at Xiao You Keng.

CHERRY BLOSSOMS everywhere and accessibility:
This time we visited in February, and were delighted by the newly blooming Cherry Blossoms and Azaleas at their most famous centerpiece - Taiwan's Flower Clock Garden beside the really beautiful Cherry Woodland and Stream Scenic Area, and the lesser-known Azalea-Camelia Garden (杜鹃山茶花园). The latter was right beside a giant car park flanked by cherry blossom trees that was easily accessible by private cars (and therefore easily accessible for those who had limited mobility) and public transport (plenty of bus information online). Kudos to the park management for making the beautiful Yangmingshan so accessible for the public.

LOOKOUT PAVILION at Azalea-Camelia Garden:
The Azalea-Camelia Garden was lesser known and less crowded, but we loved that there were plenty of different-coloured Azaleas, Camelia bushes alongside the willowy Taiwanese Acacia trees (台灣相思樹). We loved even more that there was a trial that led to a lookout tower/ viewing pavilion that overlooks the Qixing (Seven Stars) Mountain, and as you turn 360 degrees, you can also see the Datun Mountain, Shamao Mountain (紗帽山) peak which was named literally because it looked like a bowled-shape gauze hat... all the views of the surrounding peaks only available from this somewhat secretive/lesser known lookout pavilion.

MOM-AND-POP stores run by the locals:
Something interesting was that despite being a relatively established attraction, there were still some very old, locally run Mom-and-Pop stores selling freshly cooked meals and snacks using locally-sourced mountain-grown vegetables cooked over traditional coal stoves - worth checking them out.

We were lucky to catch the last day of the flower festival. Which was at the flower clock area. Since it was the flower festival. To cater the crowd. Bus 260 bus from taipei to the flower clock. It's crowded with locals.

We took Bus 260 from Taipei Main Station North Entrance. The bus ends at Yangmingshan Bus Terminal. Then we took (loop) Bus 108 to Yangmingshan visitor center. The cherry blossom trees were beautiful. The park officers were friendly and helpful. We used EasyCard to pay for the buses. The park was nice and clean. There are many trails at the park. We also took bus s9 to Zhuzihu to see calla lilies. We didn’t have time to hike. Highly recommended for nature lovers.
