Hamasen is an area adjacent to Kaohsiung Port, where once Kaohsiung Station stood. The name “Hamasen” came from a Japanese words “beach line”. Now the rail tracks were transformed into a spacious green field. Some old trains are still displayed beside newly constructed light rail.

Walking westward from Pier 2 Art Center, you end up on an unusually vast green space in Taiwan with several defunct rail tracks that is the Hamasen Railway Cultural Park. More interesting modern art sculptures are placed on the tracks and it’s a relaxing oasis away from the congested streets when you don’t have to be on a constant lookout for speeding scooters. Being close to the water it’s breezy being popular with the locals flying kites.

Near the Pier and the Pier 2 Art Centre is the old Kaohsiung Harbour railway station which has been converted into a railway museum. Hamasen is the large green park area popular for family picnics. There are several steam locomotives, several historic and more modern diesel, and electric along with cars on a myriad of original switchyard railway tracks, and most interesting metal art sculptures. Flower gardens and an upside down house are also features.

This is a very big open space with old railroad track running through. I really like the sculptures, the old train, and the feeling to be here.

I saw an upside-house exhibition when I am here. Really love it. The house has 3 layers outside. Inside you have 2 layers for exhibition. I am happy that I missed the inside tour of the 2 layer upside house in Niagara Fall, Ontario. The exhibition may be gone when you visit. Hope they get some others always. Admission in Taiwan is relative cheap in almost everywhere.

It is next to Pier-2. Don't miss this area if you come to Pier-2. No shade. Can be hot in summer.

Enjoyed the old preserved musuem. Interesting to see old history of bygone days. We can wander around the place without restrictions , take pics of the interesting memories of days gone by, the old tickets , machines used etc. There is an interesting video on life there to watch. Old trains placed outside for display and artwork around the old train track and surrounds
