We bicycled around this park at the suggestion of our B&B (and used their free bicycles to do it). You can also rent bicycles at other locations in the city, or right inside the park (and the rental place inside the park was helpful to us because they helped to adjust a seat on one of our bicycles, even though we were using the B&B's bicycles).

The park is located near an air force base, so there was plenty of jets practicing landings, and thus it was sometimes quite noisy....but even that was interesting because we got some good pictures of fighter jets landing in tight formations at very low altitudes.

As for the park itself, the bicycle paths were great. They ran the length and width of the park, and we completely enjoyed our ride. Just a few gentle slopes to navigate.

We particularly enjoyed the Pergola Tunnel (although not in full bloom at the time we went......can just imagine what it would be like in full bloom) and the Butterfly Reserve (only saw a couple of butterflies, but the flowers themselves were wonderful......alll sorts of different colors).

Lots of lakes and ponds to see. A few birs to watch, and a great way to spend a couple of hours (after which we rode out of the park towards the ocean and beach to continue our ride).

There were a few stray dogs.

We used the bicycles provided by our hotel and cycled to Taitung Forest Park. It is beautiful and serene park with good cycling tracks. There are 2 main lakes with ducks. Weather was a bit hot at 28 degree - would have been great on a cooler day. Put on plenty of sunscreen as we got sunburnt after 2-3 hours of cycling. Wonderful place to get a good workout as the park is huge. Did not see food places within the park so bring food/drinks for picnic.

We rented bikes ($150 NT/ea) for my son who's 8 and my mother who is 72. We rode around the Taitung Forest Park with our tour guide (We stayed at Toyugi Hot Springs Resort, and booked this half-day tour with them). It's about 1 1/2 very easy ride on a nicely paved bike path. The three-color ocean of Taitung is breathtaking. We stopped by the bird's nest sculpture and Pipa lake. I didn't even know that orchids can grow on trees, not to mention the gigantic leaves and the brilliant colors we encountered as we rode around the park. Rent a bike, put on the sun screen, breathe in the fresh air of Taitung. Experience nature like you've never experience it before. This by far is way better than Kenting! (too many tourists) I am so glad we took a detour to Taitung before we head to Hualien.

This was a pretty park. We paid to get into the park and then near the entrance after parking, there were the bike rentals. We did not know the bike rentals would close at 6pm so we had less than 1.5 hours. They unfortunately still charged us the full amount, stating that "Due to the heat, 1.5 hours is more than enough" - which was BS but they were cheap enough that I did not argue any more. Very beautiful park with lots of easy trails for biking but it did remind me of lots of nice parks in America with paved trails. Since we did not have that much time for the bikes we did not do that much in depth exploring. Worth a visit if you are around the area.

There are definitely beautiful spots in Taitung Forest Park, including many lovely hibiscus plants and a nice pond. The asphalt paths are well-maintained and great for cycling.

A lot of new things are being developed, and there's no doubt that the area will eventually become a memorable park.

Right now, it feels a bit impersonal and unfinished. We were glad we rented bikes, so the trip through the park went relatively quickly. It would have been sad to walk for hours along the long asphalt stretches.

There are too many photos on the internet about the Pipa Lake to draw me to the park. The lake is however much smaller than I imagined, though it is indeed picturesque. The overall park biking experienced can be just average. The coastal view is good but not unqiue by the park location compared to the rest part of Taitung.

A 5-star view maybe only inside camera, a little turn-off when physical being in the scene.

I went with some friends and hiked up "endless" stairs through a variety of trees and foilage, enjoyed the company and scenery.

The bike is big, suggest rent a bike. It's only 100~150 NTD to rent a bike.

The typhoon in July, 2016 ravaged the park, stripping most of its trees of branches and leaves, with the area full of debris on my visit in December, 2016. I'm sure it was beautiful, with its ponds in the estuaries, but the scar from the category-5 typhoon was painfully dominant.

Would strongly recommend going through this park on a bike as it covers a wide area and may be too large to explore on foot alone. The pathways are a bit narrow, but there are little to no sharp inclines or declines, making the bike-ride reasonably family friendly and suitable for most ages.

The park features multiple ponds, of which some are fresh water ponds filled with very clean / clear water. We saw a few locals taking a dip, so we decided to jump in as well. The water was cold, but the experience is refreshing should you be visiting the park on a hot day.

While there are supposedly refreshment stands in the park, we never found them, so you may consider buying a bottle of coconut water near the entrance before venturing in.
