This is a great example of continued effort of Taipei and Taiwan to preserve its history and to improve its overall aesthetics. A big ugly highway used to hide away this gate, and thank goodness the elevated road had been torn down making way for...More

Impressive to realize that at some point Taipei too had a protecting wall! As far as I know, this is the only remaining part. It's nice the Government has kept that in such a good state of conservation. Thumbs up!

Simple gate near the river. There isn’t much around here & it seems quite bare so I wouldn’t come here especially

The North gate is one of 5 gates built in Qing Dinasty, but the only remain original as it build, full of interesting story inside, including the position that is not exactly at the North, like it!

An old gate in a nice square close to the Train station. There are informative displays in the surrounding square about how it was built.

We stayed at citizenM and it was a 3 minutes walk to the North Gate. We must have walked past more than 10 times over our 5 days stay. Interesting to find an ancient gate in a modern city. Beautiful sight.

The gate was constructed in 1884 by the Qing Dynasty and was part of the fortifications to the citadel.Today it is the only remaining gate in its original form from the times of the Qing dynasty.

The only gate that survived the Japanese restructuring of the city. Would have been more impressive if there were more of the wall intact. Also there was construction work going on.

Three are extensive roadworks around the gate which make it inaccessible, these works look like they will be ongoing for awhile.
