Passing on unproven information is like saying McDonald's is a great bbq place. Generally speaking, due to routes, Magellan landing in Umatac is reasonably incorrect or all but false. It's great locale and area. Beautiful people and place, but the great oppressor most likely landed...More

Megellan found Guam. And Spain, American, even Japanese tried to invade this peaceful island. This is the very place where Magellan landed and began all the times of war, and recently, travel. I may have many things to thank the guy though. I like it...More

While there is now some debate as to whether or not this is the actual landing site, it is nonetheless worth seeing. It is not disputed that this bay was a vital link in the Spanish empire as vessels stopped here to water on their...More

We stopped here on a half day's drive from Tumon, and while it's just a simple monument (that isn't on the precise landing spot), it made for a great conversation with our kids about Magellan and his expedition to circumnavigate the globe. The drive from...More

C1 + CG ( 2016.03.28 ) My family visited there on the southern driving tour, and stop for rest. There had beautiful view and good atmosphere. Looking and feeling this area was good. There was good point to rest on southern Guam driving tour.

Umatac Bay has a 'Magellan Monument' - I was excited to learn that Magellan stopped here and was anxious to see the monument. Unfortunately this is rather disappointing pyramid shaped concrete structure.

It's not the real landing point but it's worth the photo op. It does impress when you show the photos...who needs to know the truth? Magellan called the island the "Island of Thieves" because the native people came on board and just started taking things...More
