Would check tides before you go and follow the recommended route from the slipway at West Kirby. It's a lovely walk to Little Eye, Middle Eye and then to Hilbre Island. Wear wellies and pack plenty of water. You can usually see seals bobbing around...More

Enjoyed the day however we did get very wet and dirty trainers and jeans would of been a better idea to wear wellies. The walk is quite far but doable however once on the island there is nothing there to do so our daughter wasn't...More

Right, after all the varied rumours of how long it takes to walk from West Kirby to Hilbre Island at last, here is the truth according to my stop watch and walking at normal speed. 1 hour. Obviously you have to go when the tide...More

Are there still horse and cart trips across to the island ? My mum is 80 this year and her grandparents were lighthouse keepers on Hilbre Island . Her Christian name is also Hilbre ! We were wondering if a trip to the islands would be possible for her ?!

I really don't think so. There are parts which are quite difficult to traverse across slippery rocks etc.
