My husband and I didn't spend much time on the Carriage Roads, because there was horseback traffic (and horse poop), bicycles, strollers and walkers- too congested, so we stuck to the hiking paths. The Carriage Roads are flat thought, so they're good for walking- no climbing.

Although my bike has road tires, I decided to ride the quieter Carriage Roads instead of the busy Loop Road. They are peaceful and easy. You can't ride very fast but that's OK. The serenity is what I was looking for. It is a nice way to enjoy the deeper parts of the Park without all of the people.

This is a must do if you are visiting this area. I would love to ridden all 45 miles. This is great regardless of skill level or age. These carriage roads are car free which makes them great for riding and talking and you don't have to worry about traffic if you have little ones with you.

We hiked the Witch hole trail using carriage roads. These are wide gravel roads which are kid and bike friendly, away from any traffic noise

I first saw the carriage roads in Acadia back in the early 1980s. Seeing them again was a real treat. They are a real cultural treasure as well as a remarkable recreational resource. I especially like the stone-faced bridges, which blend into the landscape as harmoniously as any bridges you’ll ever see.

Great outing with amazing views that pop up everywhere. If you are in reasonable shape, are well hydrated with a lunch you will have a blast. Bike rentals in Bar Harbor reasonable and quality bikes, well maintained.

Great views can be had on the Carriage Roads that you cannot get from your vehicle. Biking is not too strenuous but some of the hills can tire you out. Often times you'll see someone walking their bike up a hill. The "Around the Mountain" trails are not busy as a lot of the bikers avoid these sections. These sections... More

I have taken my three kids ages 7, 9, and 12 biking on these trails, and although there are some uphill challenges, they love the rides. The stone bridges are beautiful, and there are some really pretty outlooks. You could spend many days exploring all of these trails. They are labelled well to keep you from getting lost, but a...
